From Amy Adams in "Enchanted" to Maggie Gyllenhaal in the summer blockbuster "The Dark Knight," celebs this season are sporting curls or waves to match the free flowing bohemian style of the season. No matter if your hair is long or short or if curls come naturally, anyone can easily imitate the styles of the stars as long as they have the proper tools.
If your hair is naturally curly, the easiest and most efficient way to get a perfect look is to simply let your hair do what comes to it.
After showering, towel-dry your hair until it remains only slightly damp. Comb a gel or styling cream through starting at your roots and use your fingers to scrunch your hair in small sections.
TRESemmé produces a line of curl products that have a gel-like hold without causing your hair to feel stiff. "Bouncy Curls Extra Hold Defining Gel," "Touchable Curls Shaping Milk," and "Flawless Curls Curl Definition" can be combined or used individually, depending on what kind of look you are going for.
Girls with natural curls have an advantage, but if your hair is straight you don't necessarily have to be left out by the trend. Using a curling iron (remember, the thinner the iron, the tighter the curls) wrap a one- to two-inch section of your hair and curl it at a slight tilt, making sure to curl with the direction of your hair. Before curling, spray the section with hairspray to make sure each curl stays tightly wound.
Shorter hair is a little more difficult, but not necessarily impossible, to work with to create waves or curls. Curls coupled with short hair can produce excess volume, so waves are often a better style for short-haired girls to sport.
Using a curling iron with at least a two inch barrel, loosely wrap larger sections of your hair, making sure to complete your look with plenty of hairspray, as waves will come apart faster than curls.
Towson students are learning to embrace their curls as trends change this season. "I didn't like blending in with all of the other girls that straighten their hair. I'm all about being natural and unique. After I shower, I just put some mousse in it, scrunch it, and let it air dry. It's pretty simple and I love how it looks," freshman Jessie Garrett said.
Whether your hair is naturally curly or you have to work at it to get a perfect style, curls are the top accessories for any bohemian style this fall.
