One of the few shows out there that actually makes me laugh is none other than "30 Rock." The television show certainly climbs to the top in my book as one of the most clever and witty shows.
Strangely, I haven't heard any hype or praise from anyone else. It is rather odd to me since it is certainly a great show with gifted talent behind and in front of the camera. The pilot episode aired Oct. 11, 2006, and the third season begins next month on Oct. 30, 2008.
NBC's "30 Rock" is essentially a hilarious behind-the-scenes look into the making of a fictional sketch comedy series called TGS with Tracy Jordan (Tracy Morgan). The lead star of "30 Rock" is Tina Fey, who you may have seen as part of the cast of "Saturday Night Live." As one of today's most popular and successful comedians, Tina Fey brings much needed flair to the show with her quirky characters and intriguing situations.
The show stars other familiar faces such as Alec Baldwin, Jack McBrayer, and Jane Krakowski. The show maintains constant amusement as we get to see just how much it takes for Liz Lemon (Fey's character) to stay sane in running the comedy series.
Filmed mostly in Long Island City, Queens, New York, "30 Rock" displays many great images of the remarkable Big Apple which makes the show that much more realistic.
After hearing about the show from a friend, I started watching the first season on DVD over the summer. I was hooked from the first episode.
The show was very fresh and unlike any other television shows I watch. I admire the innovative and contemporary feel to the show. I do not stand alone on this one as "30 Rock" has been a critical success each season after winning various awards such as Best Comedy Series and is a recurring title on many critics' best lists.
Despite this, "30 Rock" surprisingly ranks rather low among other television shows, according to the Nielsen Ratings. The show packs a wallop and deserves more fans.
Consider it a hidden gem, and those who enjoy "Saturday Night Live" humor are sure to enjoy "30 Rock."
