Letter: Women’s golf victory in Georgia ignored

16 March 2011 No Comments

This is the second time in the past year I am writing to you in regard to your lack of coverage of the golf team. Last week, the Women’s golf team traveled to Savannah, Ga., to compete in their first tournament of the season.

In spite of the fact that the team has spent the past few months practicing in the freezing cold and snow, they won the tournament! In the nine-team field, the Tigers led the pack on the first day of the tournament and maintained their lead the second day to find victory.

In addition to the team victory, senior Emily Kwak won the tournament for the individuals.

On the first day, Emily shot 77, and the second day in tougher windy conditions, she shot a spectacular 75.

Her win at this tournament also gained her CAA Player of the Week. This is the first member of the Women’s Golf team in its five-year history to receive this honor. This was a major accomplishment for the Tigers, and I wish The Towerlight had chosen to celebrate it. The Tigers are back in action over Spring Break, so be prepared for more great things from Towson’s youngest team!
