Greek this Week: Fat Talk Free Week

19 October 2011 By Megan Flannery, Assistant Arts & Life Editor No Comments

Greek this WeekAs a part of Love Your Body Week, Tri Delta is sponsoring their annual “Fat Talk Free Week.” Every chapter nationally participates and promotes open discussion about how much of a toll “fat talk” takes on our society.

“We ask all of our family and friends to take a pledge to end fat talk, because it’s something serious that is affecting many of the women around the world,” Tri-Delta member Abby Faye Snyder said. “We all fat talk without even realizing it, whether it’s saying, ‘I need to lose 10 pounds’ or ‘I feel gross and huge,’ to saying ‘you’re so skinny’ or ‘I wish I could look like you.’”

Fifty-four percent of women would rather be hit by a truck than be fat, according to a “Fat Talk Free Week” advertisment.

“That’s insane,” Snyder said.

Tri-Deltas will be tabling in the Union during the week to encourage other students to take the pledge to end Fat Talk.
