Fatal car crash on Dulaney Valley Road

24 January 2012 By Jordan Russell, News Editor 2 Comments

Aaron Nathaniel McCoy Jr., a 20-year-old burglary suspect, was killed, and three other people were injured, in a three-car accident on Dulaney Valley Road Jan. 24.

Jenard David Tolliver, 21, was a passenger in the car that had been stolen on Jan. 18 in Howard County. Tolliver bailed out of the car near Merryman’s Mill Road five minutes before the accident. Police apprehended him shortly afterward. Tolliver has been charged with two counts of first-degree burglary and one count of grand theft auto. He is being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center on $500,000 bail.

Detectives have determined that McCoy had committed seven, and Tolliver two, residential burglaries in northern Baltimore County since Friday, according to Baltimore County Police spokeswoman Elise Armacost. The investigation shows that they committed two burglaries before the crash.

According to a Baltimore County Police Department report, police received a report of a burglary on Vance Road Tuesday, and were told the suspect or suspects may be driving a gray Honda Accord.

An officer saw a vehicle matching this description traveling south on the Jarrettsville Pike (which later becomes Dulaney Valley Road), and attempted to pull over the driver. The driver of the Honda accelerated and attempted to swerve around a Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo in an effort to pass it. The Honda crossed the center yellow line while striking the left rear corner of the Jeep. The Honda and the Jeep then collided with a northbound GMC 2500 utility truck. Finally, the Accord crashed into a telephone pole.

McCoy, the driver of the Accord, was flown to Shock Trauma, where he later died. Three other victims suffered less serious injuries.

McCoy burglarized a home Monday in the 15000 block of Tanyard Road, Sparks, stealing a security monitor recovered at the crash scene in the stolen Accord, according to Armacost. Two iPods from the Vance Road burglary, and a 46-inch television, a MacBook, an X-box and other items from a burglary in the 14000 block of Jarrettsville Pike, were also recovered.

The four burglaries committed by McCoy on Jan. 20 are still under investigation.

It is Tuesday. Unless you can predict the future, you may want to proofread to prevent it from seeming like you do.
