A redesigned read

15 April 2012 By Devin Smith, Art Director No Comments

The production team and I decided to redesign The Towerlight to create a new feel and branding to the paper.

We wanted a design that will be engaging, lively and more organized for our readers.

I was first inspired to do the redesign by looking at other great newspapers with a modern looks such as The Express, a daily newspaper in Washington, D.C.

The Express, from front to back, has a style that combines both newspaper and magazine elements.

The production team and I spent months researching and designing to bring this combination concept to our paper, and we believe we have done just that.

With the cooperation of the editorial staff, we established the new look of The Towerlight you are witnessing today. You will notice a new brand style for our cover page that will consist of full-page images.

As you flip through the pages, you will see bigger headlines, subheads and more images introducing you to the content of the paper.

We believe the paper was not reaching our audience to the best of its ability, and we are always looking to improve.

The changes made will make the paper easier to read and visually pleasing to you, the Towson community.

For, in the end, the purpose of this redesign is for our audience.

We hope you enjoy reading it as much as we have creating it.
