I agree with what you said about labels and wanting to capitalize on a sure thing. But that's what happens when labels are run by accountants and not music lovers. They don't take risks, which is unfortunate, because you hear the same pop style all over the radio. And pop music isn't even a bad thing. It's just that it's shoved so relentlessly toward us because only the major labels have the money to pay for its spins on the radio.

As for autotune, people don't see past the autotune. People want something catchy to sing along to. Labels don't want a band to develop and mature; they want hits NOW, so they'll do whatever it takes to make that happen.

"Labels need to understand that the biggest and most successful artists are the ones that are different and that start the trends. Not the ones that are mimicking the other artists that are on the radio.”"

Not true - Labels are well aware that consumers as generally lazy - they want music that's easy to consume and "safe". Meaning it sounds like everything else on the radio and doesn't challenge them with something different. Although the "trandsetters" might enjoy longer term success, labels want a quick return and they know that consumers have a short attention span - here today gone tomorrow. For that reason that spend more time capitalizing on a sure thing, rather than throwing money at the wall and waiting to see that sticks. Sad but true.

"Music listeners aren’t dumb, mindless people. They are going to see right through it if you release something forced and unnatural."

Really? Explain the relentless use of autotune please.

If you want to stay in charge creatively, don't sign onto a label - they're in to make money. Besides, the minute you do something different, consumers are going to get mad...and eventually, they're going to get mad at you regardless. Welcome to art for pay.
