Coach goes to Indiana

6 May 2012 By Sam Smith, Senior Writer No Comments

Kenny Johnson, former Towson assistant men’s basketball coach, is the newest addition to Tom Crean’s coaching staff at Indiana University.

The Hoosiers finished 27-9 with an 11-7 record in Big Ten play last season.

Johnson replaces Indiana’s Bennie Seltzer who left the school to take a head coaching position at Samford University with the Bulldogs.

A member of Pat Skerry’s inaugural coaching staff, Johnson only spent one season with the Tigers.

He previously spent four seasons as the head coach at Paul VI High School in Fairfax, Va.

Johnson’s ties to high school basketball and his role with the Amateur Athletic Union’s Team Takeover helped him play a vital role in Towson’s recruitments in the last two seasons he was with the school.

He recruited Towson players such as incoming players Frank Mason, Jerome Hairston, Marquis Marshall, Barrington Alston and transfer Rafriel Guthrie.
