In Monday’s issue, there was a letter to the editor in which the author whined about the level of security around this past weekend’s Tigerfest festivities.

First of all, I would like to say that I thought the acts were good, and I really enjoyed Kid Cudi a lot. If you didn’t, well you just don’t like good music.

But in regards to security complaints, (and I have heard quite a few) I think the level of security was perfectly adequate and not overbearing at all like John/Jane Doe said.

I will continually to refer to them this way because like most people these days, they were too afraid or too lazy to attach their name to it.

This person obviously has not been to a concert before or they would not complain.

Any concert venue has security at the gates to perform pat-downs so that you don’t bring in anything (because they want to make concession money). Towson was doing it for this reason, and also so that underage students could not bring in alcoholic beverages.

In an event where people are of mixed ages like Tigerfest, precautions like this need to be taken.

Since the student who wrote the letter was a senior, I assume that they were 21, so the concession money reason probably applies to them more.

Secondly, at any normal concert venue, there is security at the front of the stage so that patrons do not jump on stage and screw up the acts.

Tigerfest had this same security.

The only time security had to step in was when some idiot decided to jump on stage and yell “YOLO” (my disgust for this is an entirely other issue) or when people were pushing too close to the stage.

I think any sane person could agree that in these cases, security action was warranted.

The other point Mr./Mrs. Doe made was that Towson University police was patrolling the surrounding areas raining on his/her parade.  The author said that they should have better things to do like find “crime.”

Let me just say that if a police officer gave you a citation, chances are you did something against the law.

The Towson Police Department’s job is to find unruly drunks like you not “real crime.”

Don’t get me wrong, I like to party and have fun as much as the next person, but just remember there is a fine line between fun and out of hand.

And people, next time you comment, especially on this article, or write a letter to the editor, attach your real name to it like an adult.
