SGA staff to start blogging

9 May 2012 By Baily O'Malia, Staff Writer No Comments

The 2012-2013 Student Government Association executive board will be starting a blog to keep the student body informed of upcoming events.

The Imagine Towson Tumblr that the SGA ticket used during elections will be turned into an SGA blog following inauguration, according to president-elect Brandy Hall.

The revamped page will include minutes from SGA meetings, future events and important student body information.

Hall said she wants the blog to be a resource for students. The blog will also be used to help advertise student groups.

Donna McElheny said that she appreciates the idea of being able to access information remotely.

“That would make it easier to know what’s happening on campus,” McElheny said.

Kaitlyn Biles said she doesn’t know much about the SGA, but as a commuter the blog might be a good way to stay involved.

Other students said they wouldn’t be likely to visit the blog.

“I don’t know if it would be something I would check, it’s not really my style,” freshman Jamie Kashima said.

Everyone on the executive board will have access to the blog but Chief of Staff-elect Kennard Wallace will primarily run the page.  Wallace will post weekly updates once the new executive board takes their positions, according to Hall.

The goal of the blog is not only to provide students with information but also open a dialogue, Hall said.

“I know a lot of students feel like we’re not available, a lot of students don’t even know we have our own office,” Hall said. “Whether you are heavily involved or not involved at all on campus, we want you to feel like you can access us.”
