Survival Guide 2012: Grub on campus

Low meal plans

If you are on a lower meal plan and can’t go over your meals, cafeteria-style dining halls are your go-to. So get ready to call Glen and Newell home. But don’t feel restricted. If you still want to experience the wonders of Susquehanna, Paws and Brick Street then work around the small meal plan and bring your own drink. Pack a water bottle freshly filled from a Brita in your residence hall, and you can get the Chick-fil-A meal, sushi or salad at Susq, a nice sandwich or pizza at Brick Street.

Breakfast

For breakfast, Paws has some nice options including breakfast sandwiches and pancakes. But if you’re not much of a breakfast person and just prefer some cold cereal, you can always find that at Glen. Glen has a build your own omelet station.

Best kept secret

Brick Street is a great lunch place. It has a sandwich station where workers make your sandwich in front of you, freshly baked pizza the size of your head, mac and cheese and soups. You can mix and match half a sandwich with the soup or just get your sandwich with your choice of a fruit side, pretzels or chips.

Cafeteria-style

There are three cafeteria-style dining halls: Glen, Newell and West Village. Easy enough, you pay one meal to get in and then choose from an array of things. Glen has a nice sandwich station where you can tell a worker what you would like on your sandwich, and West Village has something similar. Newell also has the sandwich option and a pasta line where you can choose your pasta sauce and combinations. It also has some off-the-path foods as a constant menu option like corn dogs.

Treat yourself

Now if you want thin-crust pizza or some barbecue, the Den is the place to check out. Pizza can be found on other places on campus, like Susq, but that has a thicker crust. And if you are just looking for some unique sandwiches, burger, wrap or greasy food, Paws is the best choice. Whenever you find yourself hungry late at night and it’s likely that most dining halls are closed, Paws won’t fail you.

And of course if you’re looking for those big name companies on campus head to Susq for some chicken and waffle fries from none other than Chick-fil-A, grab a bagel in the morning from Einstein Bros Bagels or refresh yourself with some Jamba Juice.
