In March 2012, Virginia Tech Head Coach Frank Beamer announced the release of junior linebacker Telvion Clark.

Clark had been dismissed for violations of team policies following an incident in which he was arrested for public intoxication and swearing, according to The Roanoke Times.

Now Clark is listed as an outside linebacker for the Tigers and will be fighting for a starting position in the upcoming season.

Following his release, he spoke with Towson Head Coach Rob Ambrose, who said he was captivated with Clark’s demeanor and maturity.

“His personal interview was second to none,” Ambrose said. “I was thoroughly impressed with the kind of person that he is. … He’s not the first 1-A transfer we’ve talked to. There are lots of guys from other places that we’ve turned down. It’s important that he fits in with our way of doing things and after discussing it with him at length, I was pleased.”

Ambrose and Clark began talking at the beginning of the summer but because of issues securing transcripts from Virginia Tech, Clark was not permitted to work out with the Tigers until their team camp began at the beginning of August.

“We’re going teach him the defense; we’re going to put him in the best position to be successful, but depending how hard he works at it and how much he learns, that’ll determine his playing time,” Ambrose said. “At the end, best guy plays. We don’t play any favorites. [If] you work hard, you earn it, you play.”

As the Tigers work through their first scrimmage and second week of pre-season camp, Ambrose said he is looking for Clark get into shape for the season.

“Our guys have been conditioning with coach Pick [strength and conditioning coach Jeremy Pick] all summer,” Ambrose said. “When you haven’t done that all summer, you’re playing catch-up.”
