Everlasting love for Loeschke
Wednesday, Sept. 19, I had the honor of meeting the famous Towson University President, Maravene Loeschke. Aside from seeing her at every single sporting event, theatre debut, and campus event (I’m 99 percent sure she doesn’t sleep), I had never had the opportunity of shaking her hand and speaking with her one-on-one.
Now when my fellow editor Jon Munshaw refers to President Loeschke as “the grandmother he never had,” I fully understand what he is talking about.
Upon walking into her third floor office in the Administration building, which happens to look over campus, I felt like a little kid walking into Willy Wonka’s factory.
Jars of candy line all the desks and a glass of water was offered to me upon arrival. Would it be weird to hang out in the president’s office in my spare time? I hope you don’t mind, Loeschke. I strongly suggest taking the time to talk to President Loeschke if you ever have the opportunity, and if you attend Towson University on a regular basis, I’m sure you will. She is always at different events and will always greet you with a smile and will take the time to learn your name.
During my interview when I asked her where she felt most at home on campus, she easily responded, “With the students.” If that doesn’t speak grandmother-you’ve-never-had I don’t know what does. However, if you do get to know President Loeschke I’d like to clear up a common misconception. Her name is pronounced “Luskey” not “Lushkey” or “Leschkey.” She’s probably too polite to correct anyone.
So the next time you’re walking around campus and run into this wonderful lady or you’re just looking for a place to hang out and decide to chill in the president’s office, make sure you say hello to our charming president. I can promise you that you will not regret it.

Thanks for clearing up the name pronunciation. I would have bet my entire future pension that it was “LESH-key.” Just goes to show you.
True story – Loeschke is the real deal. And I too am quite certain she either has a clone, doesn’t sleep, or both.
We are lucky to have her.
I want Bob Caret Back!
I am sure she is a very nice woman but that in no way makes her a good or even qualified president for a large public university.
She was hired to stunt the growth of Towson University.
@TU Alum 06: where are you getting your ‘facts”? TU’s strategic plan is to increase the student population, have you read that? I’m curious. What you don’t understand is that there are current budget cuts across the state and in order to have growth, we have to have money. That money goes towards new academic buildings (to house the increase in student population), which in turn will need more money to hire new professors. With the way the state is now, we can barely keep the professors we have now! There are great professors leaving the university because we can’t afford to pay them…which increases the work load for current professors. Not to mention the staff members needed to help operate the new academic buildings. I mean, where do you expect this money to come from? Oh…that’s right, money grows on trees these days. Your failed attempt at logic is astounding! This is almost a conspiracy theory you’re bringing up. When you show me actual proof, I might start to take you seriously.
Leave your response!
