The just put out a crime alert for an off campus robbery that occurrd in Baltimore City, but they didn’t put one out for a shooting that happened in downtown Towson 5 blocks away????? R u kidding.

@Concerned Student:

While I completely sympathize with your statement, TUPD has no jurisdiction for uptown. Maybe the students should petition to Baltimore County to have some sort of notification go out for crimes? It is worth a shot, but you shouldn’t put the blame on the on-campus police department, while you are a student at TU, they don’t have the man power to patrol the outskirts of the university.

Unfortunately I have no information on this situation, but I would have appreciated some. The fact that towson sends out text alerts for thunderstorms but can’t send out an alert for an actual crime, that is concerning. Even if Towson students weren’t involved in the actual shooting or other fights, it was on York road… and for the officers who obviously don’t care about our safety, that’s where most students go on a Saturday night and is maybe a mile away from the actual campus. Not only would I have appreciated some notification and/or information on this situation as it was occurring, I think it should be required. I am extremely disappointed in the way the situation was handled, or lack thereof. Next time I’ll make sure to get my spidey senses working properly and just adventure out into the chaos myself to find some answers.

I was around that area for homecoming around 10 pm and noticed a high volume crowd heading towards that venue. Baltimore Sun has it that the party was hosted by a fraternity (Theta Mu Mu)from Morgan State University. Really a shame that the towerlight and some news outlets are associating students and alumni from Towson U with this incident. Appears things havent changed from since I graduated regarding Morgan State holding venues in the Towson area.

This happened at the Recher, which is the concert venue next to the Rec Room. The party was also not related to Towson University, but another school in the area.

This is shameful…We alumni had no idea what was taking place just blocks away from where we were all congregating at the Berkshire Marriott until 4am or so… This is not how we do things now, is it Towson?
Very unsettling.

A shooting in Towson and no crime alert! From what I read it was a huge mob fighting. I would have like a crime alert so I knew not to go up there….
