Message from Maravene Loeschke
Dear Concerned Towson Community:
Thank you for your thoughtful letters concerning the possible formation of a White Student Union here at Towson University. Please know that we appreciate and share your concern.
At Towson University no recognized student group is allowed to discriminate against anyone. Our policy clearly states that “Towson University has a process in place by which student groups are able to form recognized organizations.
The institution has established viewpoint neutral guidelines for recognition based on objective criteria and national best practices.
Active membership of all student organizations shall be chosen without discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, age, national origin, disability, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation or gender.”
It is also important to note that Towson has specific criteria that must be met in order for a student group to form and to date, there is no established or recognized “White Student Union” on Towson University’s campus.
The exchange of opinions and debate is a core principle of higher education and is supported by Towson’s commitment to the First Amendment. Unfortunately, this freedom on occasion allows for ideas that are offensive and hurtful to many and runs against the grain of the values of Towson University.
Accordingly, the President’s Task Force Against Bias, Discrimination, and Bullying and other campus leadership groups will continue our work to ensure this continued exchange of ideas upholds the institution’s mission and commitment to diversity and non-discrimination.

Heimbach is inviting white nationalist Jared Taylor to speak at Towson on October 2, according to the white nationalists themselves: http://cofcc.org/2012/09/dcmaryland-update/
While this article is reassuring, I would really like to see an explicit statement confirming that Heimbach’s proposed organization will not be allowed on our campus.
Given the sentiments he has made to the press, the organizations that he associates with, and his previous history at Towson, it is obvious that this “White Student Union” would be founded out of hate and bigotry.
I love that Vatz is now arguing against Matt.
Yeah, thanks chief, but you helped legitimize this mess by supporting his CLEARY racist and homophobic organization last year.

Wow! You all sound like cultural “Nazis”.
I anticipate that a White Student Union will be allowed. And I expect some legal action if the White Student Union is prohibited because of racial issues and misconceptions and accusations.
