This is a pretty sound piece of proposed law. When you read it and think about it the proposal makes a lot of sense.

I second what Phylicia said; please actually *read* the bill.

I’m so sick of hearing, “why don’t they just go back” or, “they’re just going to get an education and go back”. There’s no “back” for most of these students as they were BORN HERE….and yes, they pay taxes here. Besides, at what point did it become our responsibility to dictate where students go after they’ve completed their education? Plenty of of out of state students finish here and immediately leave. That’s their choice.

You complain about 3.5million dollars…do you have any idea how much it costs over a lifetime to provide resources for someone (citizen or not) who doesn’t have the means to provide for themselves? I’ll give you a hint…it’s exponentially more than 3.5million dollars.

The Dream Act just makes good sense.

Actually, that is not true. According tot he Maryland Institute for Policy there will be no significant crowding out due to the Maryland DREAM Act for in state or out of state students. http://times-news.com/latest_news/x1400169077/DREAM-Act-won-t-crowd-out-citizen-students

It is vital to remember that those eligible for the DREAM Act must attend community college for two years before transferring to a 4 year institution. For an Act that is predicted to affect 102 students there is no reason to think it will replace athletes (Hoe many athletes come from community college after two years?) I have yet to see any case of this happening and would love for you to provide a source stating such from one of the many states that have already passed similar legislation.

Furthermore, the title of this letter is false and misleading. The DREAM Act requires that those eligible and their families pay taxes throughout the time that the eligible student is in high school and college. So, how could this be bad for tax payers when beneficiaries of the DREAM Act are tax payers?

The entitlement’s cost is something for students to consider because it’s their tax dollars that will cover it not to mention higher tuition costs which they will also contend with.”

I’m gonna need for you to go back and read the bill. See what has to be met as far as qualifications are concerned. I assure you if you just read the bill, everything will make sense. Your entire article is suggesting they will not be going through the necessary process of becoming U.S. citizens when in fact they will be.
