Kellen McKay, a junior music performance major, said that there aren’t many times when he is completely calm before a performance.

But before walking onto the stage with his band Stacked Like Pancakes in Paws Saturday, Oct. 6, McKay said that he felt no nerves.

“So often when I perform, we are doing auditions, where the pressure to be perfect is really high,” McKay said. “It’s fun to give it my all with people who I love performing with.”

Stacked Like Pancakes was one of two bands to participate in the Office of Student Activities’ Saturday Scene: Live Band Series.

The series will take place throughout the semester featuring a variety of local bands.

Along with Stacked Like Pancakes, Saturday’s performance featured the band Johnny Graham and The Groove.

Johnny Graham and The Groove performed first.

Senior band member Jamal Harrison said the band mixes a combination of jazz, R&B, hip hop and rock music.

Harrison said he performed with his renditions of classical favorites, original pieces, and some contemporary hits.

One of many students who came out to enjoy the music was sophomore Erica Middleton, who said she heard about the event through Twitter and couldn’t wait to attend because of her love for music.

“Music is good for the soul,” Middleton said.
