TU beats the Mount

Towson traveled to Emmitsburg Thursday to take on Mount St. Mary, who was 1-0 going into the match. The Tigers came out with a 5-2 victory to make their duel match record 1-0.

Towson took two out of the three doubles matches. Junior Nani Lizanna and partner senior Andrea Samlin opened up with a 8-3 win over Mount St. Mary’s Samantha Pichoff and Kelly Conroy.

Sophomore Ayana Dow and junior Ariel Burke suffered a tough 9-7 loss, while sophomore Cailey Easdale and senior Moriah Burke earned an 8-4 victory.

The Tigers won four out of six single matches. Starting off in singles, Lizanna beat Pinchoff in three sets (7-6 (10-8), 6-1). The second singles win came from junior Nisha Shah defeating Renee Deane in two sets (6-3, 6-4). Freshman Lorena Ferrer defeated Liz Rossi with 6-4, 6-2. Burke finished singles play by beating out Jennifer Smith 6-1, 6-3. Lizanna was the only Towson player to win both a double and a singles match.

Towson heads to Annapolis later this week to compete in a tournament at the Naval Academy Oct. 12-14.
