Tigers hold off Blue Hens in 3-2 victory

The men’s soccer team won its second Colonial Athletic Association game of the season, defeating Delaware 3-2 in Newark, Del.

This is the first game the Tigers played since receiving news that the team might be discontinued next season.

The Tigers (4-5, 2-1 CAA) overcame an early 1-0 Blue Hens (3-7-1, 1-1 CAA) lead.

Joe Dipre scored in the fifth minute of the game for Delaware, his first goal of the season.

From there on, the veterans on the team took control of the game for Towson.

The Tigers responded in the 12th minute of the game after sophomore midfielder C.J. Corey assisted junior forward Kay Banjo’s third goal of the season tied the game at one a piece.

Two minutes later, Banjo helped give the Tigers a 2-1 advantage after assisting junior forward Enrico Skrypzak’s second goal of the season.

Skrypzak was not finished. In the 24th minute of the game, he gave Towson a 3-1 lead over Delaware, his third goal of the season.

Delaware responded at 32:05 of the first half as Dipre scored his second goal of the game.

After a scoreless second half, the Tigers left Newark victorious.

Both teams put on clinics offensively.

Although Delaware outshot Towson 17-13, freshman goalkeeper Felix Petermann helped preserve the win for Towson, out-performing Delaware goalkeeper Jay Lupas, and making a career-high six saves in the Tigers’ victory.

The Tigers will return to the Tiger Soccer Complex on Saturday when they host the William & Mary Tribe.
