UMMS names St. Joseph President

5 December 2012 By Jonathan Munshaw, News Editor 3 Comments

Dr. Mohan Suntha has been named as president of the University of Maryland St. Joseph Medical Center.
The University System of Maryland acquired St. Joseph’s Medical Center in November and the transition officially took effect over the past weekend.
The hospital is trying to regain its stability after a staff cardiologist, Dr. Mark Midei, was accused of giving stents to hundreds of patients who may have not needed the procedure. Midei has said he did no wrong, and simply followed the practice of other doctors around the country, according to the Baltimore Sun.
The completion of the acquisition comes nearly a year after St. Joseph’s sought a buyer after the hospital suffered financial troubles due to the Midei case, as well as a loss of patients and staff.
Suntha, 48, has been a part of the University of Maryland Medical System for the majority of his career, and is currently Vice Chairman of the Radiation Oncology Department and is an Associated Director of Clinical Affairs at the University of Maryland’s Cancer Center. Suntha‘s background is in oncology, the study of tumors and cancers and has recently been focusing on thoracic and head and neck malignancies, according to the Sun.
Neither Suntha nor St. Joseph’s could be reached for comment.
Suntha recently received an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and has been working on administrative issues at UMMS, helping to expand the medical system to 12 hospitals.
Suntha is a resident of Timonium and graduated from Brown University in 1986.
He earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in 1990.

    Maravene Loeschke

She has an UNACCREDITED PHD in philosophy and she received a vote of no confidence from the faculty at the last school she was president at.

I know this is entirely unrelated to the article above but I am still trying to figure out how and why she was hired to be the president at our school.

I know she is a TU graduate and worked at Towson for several years but that doesn’t really cut it. I graduated from TU, if I work there for 30 years can I be president too?

This should be the question of the day until it is answered.

I agree completely about Maravene. She has a PhD. from an online University which is not even in the same league as other scam colleges like Devry and University of Phoenix. I think its important for people to look at that. She has a PhD from the Union Institute in Cincinnati. Anyone ever heard of that? Nope. I bet not. Why? Its sham correspondence school. What a Joke. If people don’t see the writing on the walls as to why she was brought to Towson. I worry, greatly. Its a shame the Board of Regeants has decided to stunt our growth and continue to keep us second tier to college park.
