What’s the Buzz: Bieber, Jason Collins, Rihanna
Rihanna’s music success
Rihanna’s music video for “Russian Roulette” recently hit 100 million views on Vevo, which allowed the video to join the ranks of “certified” videos. As if that milestone isn’t a big accomplishment in and of itself, this is Rihanna’s 12th video to surpass the 100 million-view mark making her the new front-runner in certified videos. Rihanna was previously tied with Justin Bieber with 11 certified videos. Meanwhile, Chris Brown’s father, Clinton, has spoken out about his son’s relationship with Rihanna. Clinton called the pair “unbalanced” and eluded to Whitney Houston and Amy Winehouse when explaining how the tumultuous relationship could end. When asked who he would rather see Brown with he explained that Jordin Sparks would be a better match because she is a “wholesome, young lady, very pretty.”
Jason Collins comes out
Washington Wizards center Jason Collins shattered a dynamic in professional sports without even breaking a record. In a feature story posted by Sports Illustrated online Monday, April 29, Collins confessed, “I’m gay.” Collins is now the first openly gay male athlete who is still active in one of the four major sports, as all other openly gay athletes have waited until retirement to make their sexuality public. Collins’ announcement was met with some negativity, but was greatly outweighed by the positive. He received a personal phone called from President Obama and Michelle Obama declared his announcement a “huge step forward for our country” via Twitter. Collins was previously engaged to former WNBA player Carolyn Moos, who told TMZ that she was “floored” by his coming out. However, she also explained that she wants “Jason to be happy for a lifetime and stay true to who he really is, inside and out.”
Justin Bieber busted
Justin Bieber recently hit a road bump in the form of marijuana in Sweden. While Bieber’s tour bus was parked outside of his hotel an officer reported the scent of weed coming from inside the bus. Once Bieber left and was en route to the Globe Arena, law enforcement was notified and a warrant to board and search the bus was produced. About an hour into the singer’s set, police searched the empty bus and found a small amount of narcotics and an illegal Taser. Bieber was seemingly unaffected as he moved right on to his next show in Helsinki. Bieber also recently posted an Instagram picture of himself and Selena Gomez with the caption, “You’ve been makin’ music for too long babe come cuddle me – her.” Unlike another recent photo he had posted of the two and quickly deleted, this one remained posted.
