iPhone 5s, 5c announced
On Sept. 10, Apple held a press conference to officially announce the iPhone 5s, which will come with a “Touch ID” fingerprint sensor to authenticate App store purchase and improve security.
The 5s is also equipped with a chip that senses motion and environmental information for use in health and fitness apps. A new gold color will be available in addition to black and silver, according to the Washington Post.
Also announced was the iPhone 5c, a cheaper version of the iPhone, in an attempt to appeal to younger consumers and those who see the $199 contract price on the 5s as too high. The 5c will be offered for $99 at contract price and is made of plastic rather than the aluminum used in the higher-cost models.
The iPhone 5s and 5c will be released Sept. 20. The 5s will not be available for preorder, but preorders for the 5c begin Sept. 13.
