PopSyd: Wardrobe winners
Not everyone can be a winner at award shows, but that doesn’t mean you can’t look great while losing. This was certainly proved on Sunday night when television stars from Aaron Paul to Rose Byrne attended the 65th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles.
One particular color seemed to stand out on the red carpet, though, and that color was blue.
Tina Fey, who walked away with one of four possible awards for “30 Rock,” showed off her curves in a simple form fitted royal blue halter gown.
“Girls” actress Allison Williams was unfortunately not a nominee but showed up looking like one anyway. Her bright and full pleated gown – also in royal blue – effortlessly brought out her blue eyes. Williams balanced out the fullness of her gown with simple but pretty waves.
Prior to interviewing the nominees on the carpet, “Extra” host Maria Menounos upstaged almost everyone in a deep blue gown accented by emerald jewels and nude lips. Perhaps my favorite part of her look was her messy fishtail braid, which ironically pulled the entire look together.
Although these next few TV stars didn’t get the blue memo, I couldn’t talk about the Emmy’s Red Carpet without mentioning Taylor Schilling, Laura Dern and Mindy Kaling.
Schilling, a first time Emmy attendee, showed in a no-fuss white halter gown, gold jewels and her hair in glamorous old Hollywood waves.
Dern, also a Lead Actress in a Comedy Series nominee, wore an embellished lemonade pink gown that was so glitzy it needed almost no accessories.
Like Williams, Kaling was sadly not nominated for her work on television. But still, Kaling radiated beauty. “The Mindy Project” mastermind chose a plum gown with bejeweled neckline cutouts and completed her look with a prim up-do and a silver clutch.
If some sort of fashion Emmy was to exist, I’m positive these women of television would find themselves as nominees.
