Towson alum Nikki Lewis will be taking her gourmet crispy treat, Mallow Crunchies, to the kitchen competition “Supermarket Superstar” Thursday, Sept. 5.
The show allows home chefs to bring their product in front of mentors, who will help the chefs improve the product based on their critique.
The chefs then compete against two other home chefs for their product to be placed in supermarkets across the country.
“I really hope that more people have the opportunity to try [Mallow Crunchies] and fall in love with it…in locations across the country,” Lewis said.
Currently, Mallow Crunchies are available in the Baltimore area.
Lewis started off selling her product through farmers markets before selling wholesale to area stores and events.
Eventually, Mallow Crunchies needed a commercial production space of their own, Lewis said.
“And when we went on the hunt for our own, I happened to find this location which is also a retail location and it has always been a goal of mine to open a café,” she said.
Now, she owns the Mallow Bar, a dessert café and the only one in the country exclusively for the sale of crispy treats.
That’s why the 2000 graduate decided to make gourmet, crispy treats.
Now, Mallow Crunchies, will receive national attention on the Lifetime show “Supermarket Superstar.”
When Lewis started Mallow Crunchies four years ago, she said she hoped that it would remind people of their time in the kitchen as children.
But, Lewis said, Mallow Crunchies are different from the classic treats many had as children.
“We make our marshmallow from scratch with high-quality ingredients and turn it into marshmallow crispy treats in a variety of types,” Lewis said.
The types range from dark chocolate to handmade caramel.
Some of the Mallow Crunchies even have ingredients like cranberries or buttery toffee mixed in.
Lewis started Mallow Crunchies four years ago, and has since hoped to inspire people not only to remember their childhood, but also with the story of her family-oriented business.
“I want to be able to give hope to other female entrepreneurs who have to be moms as well. To let them know that you can balance having a family and run a successful business as well,” Lewis said.
You can visit the Mallow Bar at 8767 Philadelphia Road Baltimore, MD 21237.
