Irrigation systems added

2 October 2013 By Brandi Bottalico, News Editor No Comments

The Center for Liberal Arts quad is undergoing construction to install an irrigation system.
Previously Landscaping Services used a water cannon on all grassy campus areas, Manager of Landscape Services Paul Thomas said.

The irrigation system is better than the water cannon for various reasons and saves the University money, he said. The water cannon is the worst way to water the lawns around campus.

“You’re running the water more efficiently, so you have very little evaporation and the water will be metered,” he said.

In the future, the strip of land between Linthicum and the CLA quad and Towsontown field will also have an irrigation system installed. Installation of this system was just completed on Newell Field, Thomas said.

“It’s the most efficient way of watering,” he said. “We really hope to expand throughout the campus with additional irrigation projects.”
