Royal Farms’ store wins bid for York Road property
Baltimore County officials selected a proposal from Royal Farms convenience store and gas station as the winning bid over Harris Teeter for the Towson Fire Station property.
The Towson Fire Station and Public Safety property that is located on the corner of York Road and Bosley Avenue.
Last December, the sale of the fire station site created rumors that Towson Manor Park would be the new site of the firehouse, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Sophomore Nikki Hassan said she doesn’t think the Royal Farms is the best option for the area.
“I think it could be anything else because there’s enough gas stations and Royal Farms,” she said.
“The old way of doing things in the county would be to borrow taxpayer dollars, increase debt and construct replacement facilities on the existing site,” Baltimore County Councilman Kevin Kamenetz said to the Baltimore Sun. “We decided that if we want to be consistent with our goals to be innovative, responsive and efficient, we needed to consider alternative ways of achieving these goals.”
Freshman Liam Sweeney said he often walks to places off campus and agrees that it shouldn’t be a Royal Farms.
“Harris Teeter could be more useful,” he said. “It would be more useful to have a grocery store.”
