Towson ranked among top 20 most exciting suburbs
Towson, Silver Spring and Frederick were all recently named among the top 20 most exciting suburbs in America by the Movoto Real Estate blog. Topping the list was Cambridge, Mass., located just outside of Boston.
Executive Director of the Towson Chamber of Commerce Nancy Hafford said that she “absolutely” liked the idea of Towson being one of the most popular suburbs to live in.
Hafford cited Towson’s location, shopping and the presence of Towson University as reasons why she thought Towson is an exciting place to live and work.
“I’ll tell you the University plays a big part of it. You guys have great athletics programs, and theater, and you add a lot relatively inexpensively. People can go [to the Towson University campus] and get entertainment,” she said.
Hafford credited not only TU, but also Goucher College and “all the things that they offer there” for providing entertainment options in the city.
According to Hafford, the Towson Town Center receives almost 16 millions visits a year.
“People don’t realize how many people come here to shop,” she said.
A number of factors went into the ranking, including the number of young residents, parks and other outdoor activities, nightlife (including bars and nightclubs) and the number of fast food restaurants (fewer was ranked better).
Towson hosts a variety of popular non-chain restaurants, including Kyodai Rotating Sushi Bar, La Cakerie, Zia’s and the newly opened Cunningham’s, all located uptown.
For nightlife, there are eight bars right around the circle, including Charles Village Pub, Rec Room, The Kent House, The Greene Turtle, Lil’ Dicky’s, B Lounge and Seven West. Rec Room features a two-for-one deal twice a week, Lil’ Dicky’s has $2 rail drinks and shots, as well as $6 pitchers, CVP’s has Ladies Night and Turtle has special deals different days of the week.
There’s also the newly opened Torrent Lounge, which is an electronic dance music club. Numerous well-known DJ’s in the EDM scene have already made appearances at Torrent, including Bassjackers, Danny Avila and Deniz Koyu.
Silver Spring is located just outside of Washington, D.C, and Frederick was recently featured in The Towerlight’s Spring Break Preview. Both are about an hour away from Towson.
