Deleted Scenes w/ Drink Up Buttercup, Soft Cat, Person Parcel

Friday, September 25 @ The Talking Head

I had the pleasure of seeing Deleted Scenes open up for my favorite band, Cursive, back in August. They put on a great show, and have great music as well. Think DC post-hardcore (Fugazi, Q and Not U) without the dance and funk influences.

Health w/ Picture Plane, Shams, Double Dagger

Saturday, September 26 @ Sonar

Hipster disco isn't really my thing, but Health somehow pulls it off. They cite Black Flag and My Bloody Valentine as influences and actually have put effort into their live shows (or so I've heard).

Wavves w/ Ganglians, Popo

Wednesday, September 30 @ Ottobar

Wavves has garnered a lot of attention in the last year or so, mostly because of his fuzzed out guitar pop, and although its been done so many times before (and since), its actually really good. Pitchfork gave their self-titled album an 8.1/10 rating, so they can't be that bad, right?

Sunny Day Real Estate w/ The Jealous Sound

Wednesday, September 30 @ The 9:30 Club

Yes, this is sold out, but I urge you to peruse Craigslist, eBay and any local ticket scalper to get into this show. Sunny Day Real Estate put out one of the best alternative albums of the 90s (Diary). While you're there, make sure to scold them for making emo a lot less Drive Like Jehu and a lot more Jimmy Eat World.

Ra Ra Riot w/ Maps And Atlases, Princeton

Thursday, October 1 @ The 9:30 Club

While the focus of this piece is to highlight shows coming up this week, I can't help but mention that Maps & Atlases will be in town October 1. Maps & Atlases has become on of my recent obsessions, thanks in part to my roommate. Who doesn't love math rock with a bit of quirk (and lyrics!)?
