Diligently Delivering “Dexter”

Every few years, a show will have a season that, no matter which way the plot turns, it just can’t seem to go wrong. So far this fall, “Dexter” is having one of those seasons. Thus far the fourth season of Showtime’s biggest show has been one that will always be remembered when “Dexter” is reflected on thirty years from now. Michael C. Hall has been brilliant this year as everyone’s favorite serial killer, and now new-dad. If you’ve been watching, then you know that since the premiere there has not been a lot of emphasis on Dexter’s son Harrison, which is surprising given how this season was promoted. The two main plots have been trouble with his marriage, and the tracking of the newest...Chicken Soup for "The Wild Thing"'s soul

Every now and then a movie comes along that makes it’s audience rise with thunderous applause. Every now and then there is a movie that is more than ‘a little hyped up’, and it ends up exceeding your wildest expectations. For me, one of those films has come: “Where The Wild Things Are”. I think we all knew from the second that first trailer hit the web that this film was going to be great, or at least, we were all hoping that it would. In the week that led up to my viewing of Spike Jonze’s newest film, I heard many things from the critics. Several people cited it as being ‘the best reminder of childhood that has been made into film’, and when the credits started to roll, as I wiped the tears off my face, I realized just...“[REC]” a milestone for the horror genre

Maybe it’s just me, but over the last decade I’ve seen more and more Horror films that belong in the Comedy section of the DVD racks than in the actual Horror Section. The genre is dying, it’s just that simple. But last night I saw a film that could single-handedly bring it back. That film, is called “[REC]”. “[REC]” is a Spanish horror film, which was later taken and made into an American shot-for-shot remake entitled “Quarantine”. I went into the film not knowing this, but eventually recognized it’s resemblance to “Quarantine”. That being said…I’ve lost all respect for this American version, despite never seeing it. Shot-for-shot remakes can be great, but only when...'Pandorum' could fill your Space-Thriller needs

Now, I went into this film like Roger Ebert approaches each film he reviews: knowing nothing about it. I knew Dennis Quaid was in it, true, but beyond that I knew nothing other than what the poster looked like. “Pandorum” is an entertaining movie, I can say that much. I can also say that “Pandorum” is a deafening movie. I can also say that “Pandorum” is a predictable movie. But nevertheless it is a very entertaining movie. The film surrounds two astronauts (Ben Foster and Dennis Quaid) who awake on a space craft after being in ‘hypersleep’ (which apparently requires technology directly out of “Empire Strikes Back”’s Echo Base) to find that something had gone horribly wrong....A Few Thoughts on The Emmys

The 2009 Emmy Awards have left me with a strange feeling. I don’t feel like strangling some Emmy voters. There were some surprises, a few let-downs, but overall the show was well done. Mostly due to the hosting styling of a Mr. Neil Patrick Harris. The results show that Emmy viewership launched far beyond the let-down that was last year’s show. I mean, when winners stop to talk about how great you’re doing…you know you’ve got to be on the right track. He even turned his Emmy-loss into a joke with winner John Cryer for Best Supporting Actor in Comedy Series. Who, by the way, I’m very happy won. An under-rated comedian that, in all likelihood, will not get a chance at an Emmy once “Two and a Half...
