In Memoriam

6/26/09 10:36 AM

So there was plenty I could have focused this on, but I’m going to have to cover the obvious, the recent deaths in the world of entertainment. So sorry if this seems like a break from my usual stuff, but it’s necessary.     Earlier this week came the death of Ed McMahon, the famous announcer and side-kick to Johnny Carson during his thirty-year tenure as host of “The Tonight Show”. Ed was a great man, with great timing. Throughout his life he kept the title of one of the greatest entertainers in the business. Following ‘Tonight” he spent his time doing various charity projects, as well as being the spokesman for a plethora of different brands and companies. He was the definition of a side-kick and he will certainly be missed....

Early Emmy Nomination Predictions

6/22/09 12:06 AM

The Primetime Emmy nominations aren’t unveiled until July 17th, so until then I figured I’d chime in with what I think those nominations should be. Please feel free to comment. I wasn’t in the mood to figure out individual episodes fro writing and directing, so I left them out, as well as miniseries awards. Other than that all the major bases were covered. Also, since the number of nomination for the individual awards varies, I didn’t conform to a number with mine, I simply put who I think should be nominated. Most are my personal beliefs, but I did throw a few “Probable Nominees” in there. SUPPORTING ACTRESS/COMEDY Jenna Fischer- “The Office” Jane Krakowski- “30 Rock” Kristin Chenoweth- “Pushing Daisies” ...

Sarah Palin reaches a new low.

6/17/09 12:46 PM

I was forced to throw my schedule off, yet again, and make what I’m going to consider an emergency posting. In case you haven’t heard yet, Sarah Palin’s supporters (I was as shocked as you are) held a “Fire David Letterman Rally” outside of the Ed Sullivan theatre yesterday.     If you’ve been living under a rock, here’s what happened. David Letterman made a joke about Sarah Palin’s 14-year-old daughter, Willow, thinking it was her 18-year-old daughter, Bristol. The joke involved the new-mom-teen being “knocked-up by Alex Rodriguez”. Now first f all, Bristol had it comin’. Sorry if that offends but…I think we all know it’s true. Second of all, as a Yankee fan, I mean a true Yankee fan, I have to...

My Travels on YouTube

6/15/09 4:39 PM

Call me lazy, but I skipped Thursday’s post out of sheer laziness, and have nothing good for today.  It’s possible I may sway off of this ‘schedule” I have mapped out for myself. Who knows!  At any rate, I thought I’d share some of my latest finds on YouTube. First, if you haven’t discovered “the Phillip DeFranco Show”, I suggest that you do.  Here is his latest video: (These are Links, although they dont look it) SxePhil Mainpage But of some videos I’d like to share the first comes from my good friend, Eric Stishan.  Who introduced me to this gem: Super Mario Frustration     And then, a while ago, Mr. Bobby Harris played an mp3 version of this guy: Sensitive Song ...

Ya Gotta Love "The Hangover"

6/9/09 10:57 PM

Alright imaginary readers, I know it’s not Monday…but I have a good reason why I’m off my unnecessary schedule (I have such confidence in you, as you can see). I was saving this entry to be dedicated to “The Hangover” which might just be the sleeper (or not) hit of the summer, that I saw late last night.     Originally spread by word-of-mouth, “The Hangover” has taken the cinema and critics alike by storm.  Roger Ebert, who you should all read and respect while he’s still writing, gave the comedy 3 ½ stars and said “It’s just plain funny.”  Simple, and to the point, something I don’t often hear in my life.     I personally was excited for this for some time and was left...

Movie reviews: "Star Trek", "Angels and Demons"

6/4/09 4:37 PM

So, after being put off several times, here are my reviews of “Star Trek” and “Angels and Demons”. “Star Trek”     I have never considered myself a Trekkie, or Trekker, as they apparently prefer to be called, but believe me when I tell you that “Star Trek” was fantastic. JJ Abrams did a wonderful job directing this action/adventure flick.  One of my biggest problems with “Star Trek”, in comparison to “Star Wars” was that “Trek” had no real action…even though it was infinitely smarter than “Star Wars”. This re-boot managed to satisfy both needs, while tipping it’s hat to the original series when needed.     I am not a fan of re-boots. ...

Eminem had it comin'. MTV Awards round-up.

6/1/09 10:48 PM

So, Mondays and Thursdays it is.  Who knows, mayhaps I’ll get a few summer readers! Anyway, before I go on to my continuously postponed review of “Star Trek” and “Angels and Demons”, I want to talk about the MTV Movie Awards.  Granted, I never thought the word/letters ‘MTV’ would enter my column except maybe to quote Lewis Black: “MTV is to music as KFC is to chicken”.     Now granted, I have never watched The Movie Awards.  I prefer to watch award ceremonies with you know…knowledge, and the lack of a kissing category.  However, a few words need to be said. First of all Andy Samberg did a great job as host. The orchestrated “ode to Andy” was fantastic.  Forest Whitaker sang...
