Wet on the Field

10/18/09 8:42 PM

Hey its Ana!!  it’s been a very wet week.  The rain has challenged us in so many ways as an ensemble.  Rehearsal this week was not only rainy, but also cold!!!  Since most of us still have summer clothes, layering was key.  The good part about the rain was that we worked quick and efficiently.  We ran back to our previous sets and tried to march to our dots (our specific location on the field) as fast as possible so we could move on.  This week we worked on “The Impression that I Get” which was originally sung by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones (I recommend checking it out on YouTube).  I love the song and I think I’m totally going to enjoy playing it once we have everything set on the...

I Got a Feeling

9/21/09 11:56 AM

So its Monday and I’m just now writing this…ha-ha...opps. It was a busy week in the band especially the weekend. On Friday night we went to the block party in downtown Towson and played some good music for the people downtown. It was a fun event and the people seem to really love it. So the next morning rolled around and it was game day. So the game started at 7 and all the tiger fans started getting there around 6, unless you were one of the people tailgating of course…ha-ha. Well the band got there at 12:30 or early in some cases to get our show on the road. It was an awesome practice, and a lot got done.  So after practice we always have a fun ritual of eating at the cookout when the parents and volunteers of the band come out cook for us. It was really...

I Challenge You Tiger Fans!!!

9/15/09 4:37 PM

Classes are in full swing and so is band practice for us, the Towson Marching Band of Course. So last week we finished learning all of the drill, the kick ass designs and shapes for you non band kids, to A Mis Abuellos which is our first tune. It’s a Latin jazz hit by Arturo Sandoval and believe me it will knock your socks off when you hear it.  Last Friday we planned to have our first outside Macy’s Rehearsal...well that didn’t work out as planned, mainly cause it was raining…all day. So we decided to line up in the Center for the Arts and make the parade block to get some practice for this once in a lifetime parade.  This is when I realized that we are a big band. With eight people across and only about two steps between the people in front of you...

A New Era

9/8/09 2:31 PM

A dawning of a new era is coming to Towson University.  With construction, a new football coach and the approaching life changing moment of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, Towson University has certainly moved up in the world, especially in the world of the marching band. It was only 5 years ago when the TUMB (Towson University Marching Band) was only around 70 members. But with John Miliauskas at the helm of our ship, Mr. M has grown the TUMB from a organization of 70 members to its present day size of 240 members…not bad for five years. This year the TUMB is taking a big step were marching in the largest parade in the country…heck the world. Its viewed by 50 million people.  There will be more people watching from the streets of Broadway then have ever...
