Never Brown and Black

3/30/09 11:44 AM

Freshman Gabi Green, shown in a blue dress belted around the waist with a brown belt, brown leggings and brown boots (from Nordstroms) keeps her outfit consistent by keeping all her accessories the same color.

Green loves the new funky European style that's emerging this spring, as well as anything with animal prints.

Pretend it's Spring, Despite the Maryland Weather

3/23/09 3:32 PM

Sophomore Emily Hesselton, in a peasant skirt and Forever 21 halter top, takes advantage of the lovely weather, despite its weekly fluctuations.

Take advantage of warm days to air out your spring outfits. Just don't forget to go back to winter clothes when it gets cold. Flip flops and sweaters are unacceptable.

What Color is Unique to You?

3/23/09 3:31 PM

A friend pointed out today's Tiger Style candidate to me at the Glen while we were eating lunch.

"I've never see anyone pull off that color of chartreuse before," she said.

And she's right. Sophomore Tunmise Fasugba wears her half green, half yellow shirt well against her dark skin, with some chunky bangles to compliment the look.

Everyone has weird, off colors they look great in, despite what thier initial reaction to the look might be. A few summers back, I found that my skin actually looks good in salmon pink.

What weird off color compliments you, and why?

Do It Yourself

3/23/09 3:30 PM

Senior Katie Clark makes her own style, literally. By taking old shirts and tank tops she owns and cutting them, she has a brand new shirt at absolutely no cost.

Her skinny jeans, tennis shoes (from Payless) and necklace complete this DIY punk outfit.

A Running Theme

3/23/09 3:29 PM

Sophomore Kimberly Kimble not only has an amazing name, but an amazing concept when it comes to putting together a matching outfit. Running a similar pattern, design, or feature through more than one article of clothing in your ensemble will create a look of continuity. The "zipper" theme on Kimble's shirt and boots (both from Target) keep her outfit matching, but still chic. Kimble lives her fashion life by a quote she once heard from her grandmother: "I'd rather be looked over than overlooked completely." What do you think: words of wisdom or a fashion faux pas?... 2 comments

An Edgy Take on 80s Fashion

3/23/09 3:28 PM

Freshman Shae Liang (in a gray sweatshirt dress, gray Macy's boots, purple knee socks, black tights, a Target necklace and a black three-quarter length sleeve t-shirt) brings her own flair to an 80s inspired ensemble.

While the sweatshirt dress and purple socks start her look with an 80s twist, her boots and necklace give it a current feel.

Liang stands out not only with her outfit, but with her short, cropped hair. While magazines say long, flowing hair is the trend this spring, Liang stays true to herself with a hairstyle that better fits her personality.

"You can tell a lot about a person by the way they dress," Liang said.

TU Travels to Fashion Week

3/23/09 3:27 PM

Diane Von Furstenberg lured the audience into her world of freedom, elegance and fun in her Fall’s 2009 collection on February 15, 2009 at New York Fashion Week.   Appropriately titled Nomad, the collection was dominated by predominately black enables accented with bold colors and patterns giving the looks a festive feeling. Furstenberg mastered the challenge of the season posed by the economy; producing a show while making sellable and unique looks that no woman can live without. The individual pieces can easily be worn off the runway such as the dresses which come in a variety of silhouettes from short shifts to her signature wrap dress all made in stunning fabrics, and covered in exquisite details. To give the looks an otherworldly edge,...

Mychael Knight on Spring Fashion

3/23/09 3:26 PM

For those of you who didn't attend the actual event, last night at 7 p.m. in Stephens Hall Auditorium, "Project Runway" contestant Mychael Knight (pictured in an italian suit, Hugo Boss shoes and a tie off his own collection) gave a lecture on how entrepeneurs, especially in the fashion industry, should work to reach their goals as desginers, stylists, etc. Knight also showed an original creation. A purple dress he made without a pattern to show for the event. Knight also gave the audience his top two Spring Fashion tips: his favorite clothing item for ladies is the jumper, and any outfit should be finished with a piece of chunky statement jewlery....

A Medieval Elegance

3/23/09 3:25 PM

Freshman Kristen Prescott-Ezickson, in a pair of black boots, black tights, a black thrift store skirt, black lace Forever 21 tank top, green Hot Topic corset and matching necklace (also from Hot Topic) calls her outfit a "cross between pirate and a princess."

"I feel very fantastical and Romantic. I can be sexy but fight some evil foes while I'm at it," Prescott-Ezickson said.

Her outfit fits perfectly with the Romantic trend that's been sweeping runways all through Fashion Week.
