Turnovers, weather major factors in Morgan loss

9/27/09 8:25 PM

Rob Ambrose seemed quite disappointed Saturday evening following a 12-9 loss to rival Morgan State on the road. And it wasn't all that surprising. You see, his team played well, certainly well enough to win the game. But key mistakes in the fourth quarter (penalties and turnovers included) really sealed the fate of the Tigers, who stuck with the Bears for most of the game. But because of the rain, Ambrose turned to running back Tremayne Dameron to shoulder the offensive load. Dameron was largely up to the task, finishing the game with 126 yards and helping the Tigers finish with 344 total yards of offense. Here's the hitch, though. The Tigers have played two true freshmen quarterbacks, two freshmen receivers and Dameron himself is a freshman, albeit a redshirt last season. The point...

Halftime at Unitas

4/22/09 7:39 PM

The Tigers are somehow leading at the half against Hopkins. The 5-3 lead isn't completely new, though. Towson led 3-2 at halftime against the Terrapins earlier in the season, and they got up big on Hofstra before blowing that lead in the fourth. The question is, will this 5-3 lead hold? Despite the game having no impact on TU's postseason standing, a  win here would be enormous for this team's confidence, especially when you consider the previous collapses against top-10 teams this year. So how can they do it? The obvious solution is to keep pressure on. They slowed down on offense against Hofstra, and it cost them. The prevent defense doesn't work any better in lacrosse than it does in football. On the other hand, it's tough to just say the Tigers can play attack and...

Hachmann hired, what's ahead for defense??

3/25/09 3:38 PM

With the hiring of defensive coordinator Matt Hachmann official, I have had some time to reflect and gather information on Hachmann and the rest of head coach Rob Ambrose's new staff. I had a chance to speak with John Loose, Lafayette's defensive coordinator and Hachmann's former boss, and from what he told me, Towson is getting a real gem. Loose told me Hachmann was one of the sharpest football minds he's ever been around, and that his chance to be a defensive coordinator was long overdue. He was complimentary of his organizational skills and said that he was so smart, he could've even been hired as an offensive coordinator somewhere after serving on numerous staffs as an offensive assistant.  Now for the big question...what type of defense will they run? Well, that remains...
