When I was in middle school, I watched the American version of “The Grudge” for the first time. Much, much later, I would find out that it wasn’t highly-rated and to most people it was a forgettable remake of a Japanese movie (most scary movies made between 2001 and 2010 pretty much were). But none of that mattered to me when I was 13. That movie, along with “The Ring,” changed my film-watching life. I [...]

If ever there was a “pinch myself” moment in this entire study abroad experience it was the past week that I spent in Paris. In a way, all of my time in France and the time I put into learning French has been a long pilgrimage to see this city. So when I saw the bluish-gray rooftops fold into limestone buildings along the Champs-Elysées on my first day, it was a truly surreal sensation. My [...]

Anne Frank A ‘Belieber?’ Last week Justin Bieber visited the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam and in true Bieber fashion, this trip turned into an uproar from online critics. After his visit, Bieber innocently wrote in the guestbook, “Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a Belieber.” That last sentence didn’t sit well with pretty much every person that isn’t a so-called “Belieber,” who [...]

If you have been living under a rock, Psy, the Korean rapper who gave us the 21st century equivalent to the “Macarena, released his follow-up single to “Gangnam Style” over the weekend. I expected the song, “Gentleman,” to be a complete bomb, but it is currently in the top 10 in most major iTunes charts and the video has already racked up 100,000,000 plus views and more than 1,000,000 likes in four days. Where are [...]

With only a few weeks left in the semester, stress is higher than ever. You can, however, learn to relax if you know your zodiac sign. Aries relaxes best by doing. The ram can’t stay cooped up inside all day, they’d much rather take a calming bike-ride or walk around campus. A yoga class could also be good for relaxing the workaholic. Taurus is most relaxed when clean, well-rested and comfortable. A hot shower and [...]

The Ottobar was buzzing with chatter, guitar riffs, and excitement as the six-piece symphonic metal band, Eye of Pariah, prepared to take the stage. Eye of Pariah is composed of Mike Baker on piano/synth, Christian Wetmore on guitar, Dempsey Price on drums, Alister Abellana on synth, Patrick Merson on guitar and Eric Rhodes on vocals and bass. For students living on campus, getting to class consists of a five to 10 minute predictable walk. Junior Liam Clisham’s commute to campus can take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours depending on traffic conditions. That doesn’t include parking and the additional walk to class from the parking garage. The graphic design major chose Towson after attending Harford Community College because of its proximity to his home, wife and child. He feels that even [...]

If you live on campus or have visited campus at night recently, you may have heard singing echoing from the parking garages. Wonder why? This week is Greek Week, the annual competition where sororities and fraternities compete for first, second and third place in athletic and spirit events. The singing or chanting you may have heard was the sororities and fraternities practicing for Greek Sing, just one of many events that take place during Greek [...]

Last week, I told you guys about “Giallo,” a movie so terrible that only masochists could enjoy it. But sometimes, movies are so bad that they’re good—or even great. The classic, of course, is “Troll 2.” There isn’t much I can say about this movie that hasn’t already been said, but I’m going to try just because it’s so incredibly bad. A boy who speaks exclusively in bewildered exclamations is leaving with his family to [...]

I found myself this weekend in Lyon, France, which was bustling with people in the 70-degree spring weather. On April 15 I will finally head to Paris in what feels like a pilgrimage eight years in the making. The frenzy of activity and commerce in Lyon came with the street spectacles of the season. Jugglers and troubadours of every nature lined the streets and every few blocks tiny brass bands played classic French songs. Each [...]
