Mathews will not return as Head Coach

Towson athletics officials announced in a release dated Friday, Feb. 22 that they will not be renewing the contract of women’s basketball Head Coach Joe Mathews. Up 71-70 with 11 seconds remaining against Drexel, Towson freshman point guard Jerome Hairston stole a pass from Damion Lee and sprinted down court when Derrick Thomas fouled him. Towson’s two-game winning streak came to an end Thursday night with a 79-45 loss to James Madison. Tigers pound the Pride

Towson recorded its second straight conference win Tuesday night, defeating the Hofstra Pride 69-60. The Tigers (9-16, 3-11 Colonial Athletic Association) built off of their Sunday win against George Mason by starting Tuesday’s game with a newfound sense of intensity and urgency. Towson recorded its second Colonial Athletic Association win of the season Sunday, defeating George Mason 53-51. With just under four minutes left in the game, the Patriots (8-15, 3-9 CAA) took a 48-42 lead. But the Tigers (8-16, 2-11 CAA) seized control of the game and never looked back. Towson bounced back from its five-point defeat at James Madison, beating Hofstra University 57-50 in its final game of a three-game road stretch Saturday evening. Towson dropped the second game of the current three-game road trip, falling to James Madison 75-70 Tuesday night in Harrisonburg, Va. Towson suffered its fourth consecutive loss Thursday night as the team fell to No. 20 Delaware 77-55 at the Towson Center. Towson extends winning streak

Towson won its fourth consecutive game Saturday afternoon in Atlanta, Ga. beating Colonial Athletic Association foe Georgia State in overtime 90-82. Junior guard Rafriel Guthrie led the Tigers (14-12, 9-4 CAA) off the bench with a career-high 23 points on 8-10 shooting from the field.
