Guard scores 26 points in final home game

Senior guard Tanisha McTiller helped lead the Tigers to a 75-63 win over the College of Charleston Cougars on Senior Day at SECU Arena Sunday. “It was a tremendous way to end the season here at the SECU,” Head Coach Niki Reid Geckeler said. “It’s been a year of ups and downs, however, when you win like this you’re very happy.” It was McTiller’s final home game of her Towson career, as she finished the game with 26 points and seven rebounds. “I’m very excited for Tanisha McTiller, as she played a tremendous game,” Geckeler said. “As we all know, she’s left her legacy here. TU falls 60-59 to UNCW

The Tigers blew a late lead in the second half and lost a heartbreaker to the UNC Wilmington Seahawks, 60-59 on Sunday at Trask Coliseum. “When we lose that building for just one second we give our opponent that much confidence,” sophomore guard Dominique Johnson said. It was a game which featured a back-and-forth contest between the Tigers (12-15, 6-8 Colonial Athletic Association) and Seahawks (4-24, 3-11 CAA). UNC Wilmington guard Brie Mobley hit two free throws with under 30 seconds left to give the Seahawks a 28-27 lead to go into halftime. The Tigers snapped their three-game losing streak with a 75-69 win over William & Mary on Thursday night at SECU Arena. “I’m very excited and very pleased with the performance of our young ladies,” Head Coach Niki Reid Geckeler said. “It was a team effort and we played hard all the way until the end.” Towson (12-15, 6-8 Colonial Athletic Association) was able to shoot 55.6 percent from the field, which is the highest shooting percentage the team has shot at all season. “I think a lot of people were touching the ball tonight and that’s how you beat a zone defense,” Geckeler said. “Very happy with […] Read the full story »

Towson drops conference games to Drexel and Delaware

Towson could not get momentum in the second half of its game against Drexel Friday, falling 60-43 and for its second straight loss. Towson (11-14, 5-7 CAA) kept it close in the first half, as the score was tied at 17-17 with five minutes left to play. But Drexel (12-11, 7-3 CAA) went on an 8-2 run to end the half, which ended up setting the tone for the second half. Senior guard Tanisha McTiller banked in a jump shot with five seconds left to help propel the Tigers to a 65-63 win against the Hofstra Pride on Thursday at SECU Arena. “I just saw an opening and I took it,” McTiller said. “I just took what the defense gave me.” The Tigers (11-11, 5-4 CAA) were tied with the Pride (9-11, 4-5 CAA) when McTiller brought the ball down the court with 20 seconds remaining in the game. Senior guard Tanisha McTiller’s 33 points helped Towson secure a 67-62 win against Northeastern and gave the Tigers the series sweep. McTiller came out of the gates strong, scoring 18 of her points in the first half. She finished 9-for-19 from the field and shot 15-for-22 from the free throw line. The 33 points helped raised McTiller’s average to 22.6 points per game, which leads the Colonial Athletic Association. “Tonight was a great win for us against a very good Northeastern team,” McTiller said. “We came out from the jump and were very aggressive on the defensive end. Towson dug itself into a hole early in an away matchup against William & Mary on Sunday and lost 69-60 in Williamsburg, Va. The game started out close, as the Tigers (9-10, 3-3 Colonial Athletic Association) only trailed 21-14 with nine minutes left in the first half. But the Tribe (4-13, 1-4 CAA) went on a 14-0 run and took a commanding 35-14 lead before bringing a 41-21 advantage into halftime.  The Tigers kicked off Colonial Athletic Association play with a 62-56 win against the Hofstra Pride Wednesday in Hampstead, N.Y. Senior forward sparks game-clinching run

The Tigers were able to beat the LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds 76-56 after a dominant performance in the second half Monday afternoon at SECU Arena. The game was tied at 30 going into halftime, but the Tigers (4-5) went on a tear in the second half, outscoring the Blackbirds (0-8) by a score of 46-26. Senior forward Nyree Williams was the key contributor to Towson pulling away in the second half. The Tigers were up 48-46 in the second half with 10 minutes to go when Williams was fouled while making a powerful lay-up. Tigers erase 10-point halftime deficit to defeat Colonials

Towson was able to complete a comeback victory in the final seconds, beating George Washington, 68-67, on the road in Washington, D.C. on Saturday. After being tied at 67 with 50 seconds remaining in the game, senior guard Tanisha McTiller was fouled and hit a free throw in the last two seconds of the game to give the Tigers (3-5) the win. It was one of the more impressive wins for the Tigers this season, as they trailed the Colonials  (4-4) by 10 (45-35) at halftime.
