What was your favorite Towson athletics moment of the year? Alena: The best moment of the year was the last two volleyball matches of the season against Geaorgie State and UNC Wilmington. Granted, they weren’t buzzer-beater wins, and it didn’t take five overtimes to decide a winner, but it was important for the team all the same. With the final win against the UNC-W Seahawks, the Tigers were able to finish with a winning record [...]

Who will play for the Nationals first; Bryce Harper or Stephen Strasburg? Andrew: This is an intriguing question, because neither should play in the majors this season. Strasburg had Tommy John surgery last August and should be out 12 to 18 months. The common man misses a whole calendar year if Tommy John surgery is needed, but we learned last summer that Strasburg isn’t common. The phenom made one of the most anticipated debuts in [...]

What needs to happen for Towson to have a successful men’s basketball team? Sam: Much of the Tigers’ woes of this season can be attributed to their lack of depth. While most of the dominant teams in the Colonial Athletic Association can rely on 10 guys to play in each game who are ready to step in and contribute, Pat Kennedy has only been playing around eight players a game. It didn’t help that the [...]

Who had baseball’s best off-season? Andrew: This is an easy one. The Boston Red Sox had the biggest offseason of any team in baseball. In fact, this may be one of the best winters that the Sox have had in their history. After the Sox finished in third place in the American League East in 2010, they knew that major changes were needed to get back to the playoffs and knock off the Tampa Bay [...]

What has been the most surprising move in MLB this off-season? Carrie: For me, it has to be Adam Dunn signing with the Chicago White Sox. As a Nationals fan, Dunn has become one of my favorite players over the last two seasons due to his incredible slugging power and his at-the-plate demeanor. Seeing him go to the American League, while making a certain amount of sense, sickens me just a little bit. Toward the [...]

Who is the favorite to win the BCS Title? Andrew: I really like Oregon. I like the spread offense and the different jerseys every week and I love their coach Chip Kelly. He doesn’t make excuses when they’re not getting things done and he is completely straight forward, much like his team. Heisman candidate LaMichael James is a sure-fire NFL stud in the making, and QB Darron Thomas is very equal to Auburn signal caller [...]

Will a bout between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao ever happen? Maria: Will they or won’t they? This question has been tossed around for months, creating a palpable hunger for this once-in-a-lifetime boxing event. Despite doubts, the Mayweather versus Pacquiao showdown will happen, because fans want this fight, Manny Pacquiao wants this fight and Floyd Mayweather needs this fight, for both his pocketbook and his reputation. Fights like this don’t come along often, and thanks [...]

Was firing Wade Phillips the right move for the Cowboys? Jen: Firing Wade Phillips isn’t going to make a difference for the Cowboys this year. Although he hasn’t had the greatest success for Dallas playoff-wise, he’s still had some great seasons with the ‘boys. All around, the team is pretty beat down. The offensive line isn’t doing their job protecting the quarterback, the defense is slow and the penalties per game are extremely high. This [...]

Who will win the NFL MVP award this year? DJ: Philip Rivers. At 3-5 for the year, it is hard to call a Chargers player “most valuable.” The worst NFL team to produce an MVP was the 1997 Detroit Lions, only because Barry Sanders ran for 2,053 yards, the third most in NFL history. This year though, Philip Rivers is on pace to shatter the single-season passing yards record, with 2,649 through eight games. He [...]

Who is the midseason NFL MVP: Andrew: One guy that has stood out more than the rest through the halfway point of the season is Philip Rivers. I realize his team is 3-5, but the guy is racking up numbers like a champ. Coming into Sunday’s game against Tennessee, he had thrown for 2,344 yards and 13 touchdowns while completing 63 percent of his passes. I really wouldn’t pin the Chargers losses on his shoulders [...]
