Towson lets halftime lead slip away

The Tigers held Navy to just one goal in the first half of Tuesday night’s game. But five unanswered goals by the Midshipmen kick-started a dominating second half that allowed Navy (3-3) to walk out of Johnny Unitas Stadium with a 10-6 victory. After Towson (2-3) took a 2-1 lead into halftime, senior Travis Love replaced junior goalkeeper Andrew Wascavage, who made three saves and gave up just one goal. However, Love did not benefit [...]

TU overcomes Mount, wins 10-8

For the first time this season, the Tigers held an opponent to fewer than 10 goals, beating Mount St. Mary’s 10-8 at Johnny Unitas Stadium Saturday afternoon in Towson’s home opener. The win marked Towson’s second victory of the season, the first since Feb. 11’s season opener against Jacksonville. The Tigers did not play a well-rounded game, however. After winning just nine of 21 faceoffs, clearing the ball successfully in 12 of their 21 opportunities, [...]

Loyola hounds Towson in 13-6 loss

In the 54th all-time meeting between the two rivals, the Loyola Greyhounds showed why they’re ranked 13th in the nation with a dominating 13-6 victory over the Tigers Saturday at Ridley Athletic Complex in Baltimore. Mike Sawyer and Sean O’Sullivan each scored four times for the Greyhounds, who outshot the Tigers 49-22. “That was a beat down,” Head Coach Shawn Nadelen said. “Loyola beat us in every aspect of the game. We thought we were [...]

Johns Hopkins continues dominance of Towson

Second-ranked Johns Hopkins (1-0) continued its dominance over Towson (1-1) Friday night, earning a 12-6 victory in their season opener at Homewood Field. With the win, the Blue Jays extended their record to 37-3 all-time against the Tigers. The victory marked the 150th in the career of Blue Jays Head Coach Dave Pietramala, who is the only person to win a NCAA Championship as both a player and a coach. However, this was not an [...]

2012 Men’s Lacrosse Preview

Following a rough 3-10 2011 campaign, changes had to be made if the Tigers wanted a more successful season in 2012. When Shawn Nadelen was hired in May to replace Tony Seaman as the head coach, he immediately implemented a different culture for the Towson lacrosse program. “Coach Nadelen brought in this mentality of ‘We’re going to change the way Towson lacrosse plays.’ We all just followed him and he’s a winner, so he’s leading [...]

Nadelen era begins with a victory

In a back-and-forth battle between two programs with new coaching staffs, Towson bested the Jacksonville Dolphins 12-10 in Saturday afternoon’s season opener, earning Shawn Nadelen his first victory as head coach. After falling into an 8-6 deficit midway into the third quarter, senior attack Sean Mcguire led the Tigers on a five-goal outburst by scoring three of his own in the final 23 minutes of play, which gave the Tigers the 11-8 advantage. “We’ll take [...]

Tigers prep for season opener in Jacksonville

The 2011 lacrosse season can be described in one word: disappointing. After suffering a 3-10 season with just one conference win, first-year, 32-year-old Head Coach Shawn Nadelen took the squad from 30-year veteran Head Coach Tony Seaman. Nadelen comes with a wealth of experience.  After playing for Johns Hopkins, he went on to play a decade in Major League Lacrosse, winning two championships and earning an All-Star appearance in 2006. Although Nadelen spent seven years [...]

Coming out of Huntington High School in Huntington, Md., sophomore Peter Athens had a choice to make when it came to what sport he wanted to pursue at the collegiate level. Even though lacrosse runs in his family, as his two brothers, Jon and Andrew, played for Presbyterian College in South Carolina, and his dad played for the Naval Academy, Peter chose to join the Towson football program. “It was always a goal of mine [...]

Seaman becomes Denver’s top dog

Former Towson men’s lacrosse Head Coach Tony Seaman has been hired as the general manager of the Denver Outlaws, according to team owner Mac Freeman. Seaman, who was the Tigers coach for the last 13 seasons, will become the second general manager in the Major League Lacrosse team’s franchise history. After being asked to resign from his head coaching position in May when the Tigers finished 3-10 and only won one game in Colonial Athletic [...]
