Towson remained in third place in the Colonial Athletic Association standings after a 3-0 win against the Delaware Blue Hens, extending its win streak to seven games. “This year we have so much potential to win CAA’s,” senior outside hitter Saitaua Iosia said. “All we have to do is work harder, stay focused and believe in each other that we can win.” The Tigers (21-3, 7-2 CAA) could not break away from the Blue Hens (12-12, 5-4 CAA) early in the first set, as both teams stayed within two points of each other. Towson reached 20 wins on the season, as it defeated the Delaware State Hornets, 3-0, on Tuesday. The Tigers (20-3, 6-2 CAA) controlled the whole match, as the team won each set by at least six points. Towson did not commit a single error in the first set, which allowed the team to win by 12 points. The Tigers took advantage of the Hornets (1-18) early struggles and started off with a quick 11-6 lead. Senior outside hitter helps secure No. 2 ranking in conference with 3-2 win

The Tigers extended their win streak to five matches Saturday, after a 3-2 win over the UNC Wilmington Seahawks. Senior outside hitter Saitaua Iosia, who finished the match with 26 kills, led the way for Towson (19-3, 6-2 CAA). It was a season-high for the senior, who also had 12 digs in the match. “We played fairly well and we really needed that win against [UNC Wilmington],” Head Coach Don Metil said. “This game decided where we sat in our conference. Towson kept its undefeated home record intact Saturday, after a 3-0 win against William & Mary. The Tigers (17-3, 4-2 CAA) improved their home record to 10-0 and controlled all three sets against the Tribe (5-15, 1-5 CAA). “It’s been a huge turnaround from last year,” Head Coach Don Metil said. “We’re defending the home court well and the fans are giving us some energy when we need it.” William & Mary started off the first set with a quick 4-1 lead, but senior opposite Victoria Williams sparked a 4-1 run with two kills and tied the match at 5-5. Senior libero/defensive specialist records 16 digs to eclipse school record in win

Towson came away with a 3-1 conference win against the Northeastern Huskies, as senior defensive specialist Paige Sekerak set the school record for digs. Sekerak had four assists and 16 kills in the match, and now has a record of 1,627 digs at Towson. The Tigers (15-3, 2-2 Colonial Athletic Association) lost 3-1 to the Hofstra Pride (16-2, 4-0 CAA) on Friday and needed a win against the Huskies (8-9, 1-3 CAA) in order to reach .500 in the CAA. Towson lost its second game of the season to College of Charleston, which won the last three sets of the match and picked up a 3-2 win. “It was a match that you had to be there for, as we jumped out to an early lead and could have walked away with a 3-0 win,” Head Coach Don Metil said. The Tigers (14-2, 1-1 CAA) won the first set with a comeback, as the Cougars (10-7, 2-0 CAA) led 24-18. Towson continued its winning streak to four matches, as it defeated the St. John’s Red Storm, 3-1, on Sunday at SECU Arena. The match was a part of the Tiger Invitational, in which Towson (13-1) also beat the Kent State Golden Flashes (8-5) and the North Dakota St. Bison (5-8). “We did a lot better in this tournament than I thought we would going into it, which is exciting,” Head Coach Don Metil said. The Tigers didn’t leave the Alabama Tournament with their perfect record intact, after a 3-0 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday. Towson (9-1) began the tournament with three wins against the Citadel Bulldogs (3-7), Savannah St. Tigers (2-7) and Southern Miss Eagles (9-4). The Tigers held all three teams scoreless. Towson defeated the La Salle Explorers, 3-0, at SECU Arena on Saturday to wrap up the Towson Invitational, continuing the team’s undefeated streak to start the season. The Tigers (6-0) started the tournament with a 3-0 win Friday against the St. Peter’s Gamecocks (0-5). Towson then took down the Coppin State Eagles (4-3), by a score of 3-1 on Saturday and finished up with a victory against La Salle (3-5). “It was a winnable tournament and that was the expectation coming into the match,” Head Coach Don Metil said. “It’s good to have the positive mentality moving forward into the two greatly more difficult weekends coming up.” […] Read the full story »

The Tigers kicked off the season by winning all three sets against the UMass-Lowell River Hawks on Friday night. Towson (1-0) started things off with an even matchup in the first set, as it lead 12-11, until three consecutive kills from sophomore middle blocker Candace Steadman gave the Tigers a 14-12 lead. Towson had an 19-14 lead and went on to score seven straight points to win the first set 25-14.
