Towson ended the season by losing two games at home 3-2 to the College of Charleston Cougars and 3-1 to the University of North Carolina Wilmington Seahawks. After the loss against the Cougars, the Tigers fell in their last game of the season to the Seahawks (19-9, 8-6 CAA) on Sunday. Towson came out with the momentum it had against the Cougars, winning the first set 25-18. But after that, the Tigers were plagued by errors, committing 21 en route to losing the last three sets. The Tigers were able get revenge on the Delaware Blue Hens Sunday night, beating the home team 3-1. Towson (10-22, 2-10 CAA) was able to reach double-digits in the win column with the victory over the Blue Hens (11-15, 3-9 CAA), which was a goal Head Coach Don Metil said he set out for his team. “It was great to reach our goal of getting double-digit wins on the season and to know that we’re getting better and better,” Metil said. “We were able control our fate in this game and also Delaware’s, knocking them out of contention in our conference.” Delaware came into the game needing […] Read the full story »

Towson sweeps season series with Navy

Towson defeated Navy 3-0 on Tuesday night at SECU Arena, completing the series sweep and ended a two-match losing skid. The Tigers (9-22, 1-10 Colonial Athletic Association) showed an increased level of confidence, as they took the first set against the Midshipmen (12-13) by a score of 25-21. Towson committed eight errors in the set, but the Tigers would go on to only commit nine more errors the rest of the match. Towson dropped two Colonial Athletic Association games over the weekend, losing to the UNC Wilmington Seahawks 3-0 on Friday and to the College of Charleston Cougars, 3-1, on Sunday. The team was without a few players, including sophomore Haley Pa’akaula, which was a factor in both losses. “We only traveled 12 girls, so that made things more difficult for us,” Head Coach Don Metil said. “[Pa’akaula] just came off of being CAA Player of the Week, but was hurt and didn’t travel with us. Towson started their home stand with a 3-1 loss to William & Mary Tribe on Friday, but came back with a 3-0 win against the James Madison Dukes on Saturday. Both matches were at SECU Arena. The Tigers (8-20, 1-8 Colonial Athletic Association) were able to get their first conference win of the season against the Dukes (9-13, 4-5 CAA). “As far as the timing, the win was absolutely necessary for us. Towson sweeps Navy 3-0 for first win in seven games

Towson got back in the win column Tuesday night, beating the Navy Midshipmen 3-0. The Tigers (7-19, 0-7 Colonial Athletic Association) picked up a much needed win, as the team had previously lost 11 of its last 12 matches. The match started in favor of the Tigers, as Towson took the first set against Navy 25-23. Junior Saitaua Iosia had five of her 11 kills in the first set, which gave the Tigers a burst of offense. The Tigers were shutout this weekend, losing to both the Northeastern Huskies Friday and the Hofstra Pride Saturday, 3-0. Towson (6-19, 0-7 Colonial Athletic Association) was unable to pick up its first conference win of the season, as the young team continued to struggle with errors. Against Hofstra (13-9, 4-3 CAA), Towson committed 21 errors, compared to 11 by Hofstra. Hofstra quickly gained the momentum in the first set after a 25-9 win. The Pride then beat the Tigers 25-17 in the second set before sealing the match victory with a 25-20 win in the third set. Towson (6-17, 0-5 Colonial Athletic Association) dropped two more matches over the weekend, losing to James Madison 3-1 Friday, and William & Mary 3-2 Saturday. The Tigers’ loss on Saturday to William & Mary was the fourth straight for the Tigers. They have now lost nine out of their last 10 matches. Their last win was Sept. 29 over George Washington. The Tigers went into the fourth set with a 2-1 lead, but the Tribe (7-14, 2-3 CAA) was able to rally to take the fourth set 25-23, forcing a fifth set. TU falls to Hofstra and Northeastern

Towson struggled in its two-game home stand over the weekend, falling to Hofstra, 3-2, Friday and losing to Northeastern, 3-0, Saturday on Alumnae Night in SECU Arena. The Huskies (10-7, 3-1 Colonial Athletic Association) used quick starts in the first two sets to get past the Tigers (6-15, 0-3 CAA). Northeastern jumped out to a 9-4 lead in the first set and a 9-3 advantage in the second set. Junior Saitaua Iosia had 10 kills in the match and freshman Stephanie Massanet picked up five more kills, coming off a career game against Hofstra. Tigers rebound from 3-0 loss Friday to UDel

It was a weekend of mixed results for Towson, losing at home to Delaware 3-0 on Friday, but beating George Washington on the road 3-1 on Sunday. The Tigers bounced back from Friday’s loss by winning the first two sets against the Colonials 25-17 and 25-20. Towson lost the third set to George Washington (5-9) 25-23, and struggled in the fourth set, but managed to come from behind to win the set.
