Baltimore County Police confirmed Wednesday morning that William Parente, 59, killed his family before taking his own life in the Towson Sheraton Hotel on Sunday.

Medical examiners determined the cause of death as blunt force trauma and asphyxiation. Parente took his own life by cutting.

According to Baltimore County Police chief James Johnson, Parente murdered his spouse Betty, 58, sometime Sunday afternoon and his daughter Stephanie, a Loyola College sophomore, later in the day. It is unconfirmed at what time he murdered his youngest daughter Catherine, 11.

“We continue to interview family, friends and work associates to try to determine the motive and circumstance behind these violent acts,” Johnson said.

“The Baltimore County Police Department has learned of allegations that William Parente may be involved in questionable financial dealings. And any information discovered through investigation, concerning Mr. Parente, will be given to the proper jurisdiction and authorities.”

The family, from Long Island, NY, was in town visiting their daughter Stephanie. Housekeeping personnel discovered Monday afternoon the bodies, placed on a king size bed in the room by William. They found his body in the bathroom.

Johnson commended the Sheraton staff for their assistance in the investigation. “Their technology deployed in public places and observation skills played a critical role in investigating this case. We are also greatly appreciative of the staff at Loyola College,” Johnson said.

Baltimore County Police are still investigating the murder weapon. No note was found at the crime scene.

“We ask that individuals that are suffering from mental and emotional health issues reach out to the mental and emotional health community when they face these crisis…there is a safety net in place to help,” Johnson said.

This tragedy has hit too close to home. I grew up in Garden City. My 11 year-old sister was a classmate and friend of little Catherine Parente. Our families attended the same Catholic church. The shock and sadness continues to haunt our tight-nit community. They were good people. May God rest their souls. I pray for the Parente family and for all who have been touched by the horrible news.

To anonymous in 7th grade from Catherine's school---sweety, my daughter was Catherine's buddy, also in 6th at the school, so I know how hard it is not to see her beautiful smile in the hall. Just know that she is in a safe place with her mom and sis who she loved. If you need help dealing with the shock, talk to mom and dad and to your teachers and counselors.

Wow I am origally for Garden City now live in PA so this one hits me hard. What a messed thing the mind can be , I would rather be told it is was a mob hit gone bad then an a father doing that , that would make more sence. This is so sad not about him he could take his own life it is about the kids . I think one will find it must be pretty bad what is going to be discovered so bad he did not want to leave them behind with what ever he did .

Catherine was such a sweet, pretty girl. I am the grade above her but when i saw her in the hall, she always had a smile. it brings tears to my eyes to know that her dad did this. i met catherine and she was nice. She had my cluster that i had last year and i always saw her. I wish time could turn back because i feel so bad that she and her sister are on the cover of Newsday. It still is a shock to me and i wish she was still here. I don't really know her but i was crying because it impacted Garden City Middle school the most! I am still so shocked and i wish this didnt happen to a family like this

I am in 7th grade and come from Catherines school.
