Baltimore County Police confirmed Wednesday morning that William Parente, 59, killed his family before taking his own life in the Towson Sheraton Hotel on Sunday.
Medical examiners determined the cause of death as blunt force trauma and asphyxiation. Parente took his own life by cutting.
According to Baltimore County Police chief James Johnson, Parente murdered his spouse Betty, 58, sometime Sunday afternoon and his daughter Stephanie, a Loyola College sophomore, later in the day. It is unconfirmed at what time he murdered his youngest daughter Catherine, 11.
“We continue to interview family, friends and work associates to try to determine the motive and circumstance behind these violent acts,” Johnson said.
“The Baltimore County Police Department has learned of allegations that William Parente may be involved in questionable financial dealings. And any information discovered through investigation, concerning Mr. Parente, will be given to the proper jurisdiction and authorities.”
The family, from Long Island, NY, was in town visiting their daughter Stephanie. Housekeeping personnel discovered Monday afternoon the bodies, placed on a king size bed in the room by William. They found his body in the bathroom.
Johnson commended the Sheraton staff for their assistance in the investigation. “Their technology deployed in public places and observation skills played a critical role in investigating this case. We are also greatly appreciative of the staff at Loyola College,” Johnson said.
Baltimore County Police are still investigating the murder weapon. No note was found at the crime scene.
“We ask that individuals that are suffering from mental and emotional health issues reach out to the mental and emotional health community when they face these crisis…there is a safety net in place to help,” Johnson said.
