CAB survey is best way to contribute

I am the director of the Campus Activities Board, the organization which is directly involved in planning Tigerfest. I have noticed that there are more Facebook groups than ever advocating for specific artists to headline Tigerfest. This is great that so many of you are excited for the show. However, I wanted to clarify that the only tool CAB will be using to survey the students is Involved@TU. CAB truly cares what the students want, and our number one goal is to bring the best Tigerfest artist for our students! However, we cannot consider Facebook groups as a deciding factor for the following reasons:

-Anyone can join a Facebook group. Just because you have 1,000 people in your group does not mean they are all Towson students. Only Towson students can access Involved@TU.

-There are tons of Facebook groups popping up daily, so we have no way of keeping track of all of them.

-If people care enough to advocate for a specific artist on Facebook, we hope they will have one to five minutes to take our surveys on Involved@TU and get the other students interested to take them as well.

We will take into consideration all suggestions we receive for Tigerfest artists, and we will compile a list of artists to put on our next survey. You must be sure to take this survey to get your voice heard! Please keep in mind that when we select artists to put on the survey, CAB must be mindful of:

-Our budget. It is not unlimited, so we are not going to be unrealistic and put an artist on the survey that costs $500,000, when that is something we cannot afford. (Unless, of course, students want to pay $50 for a ticket. The budget for Tigerfest isn’t unlimited, so if an artist is out of our budget, we would have to find other means to cover their fee… i.e. raising ticket prices.)

-Which artists are willing to play on a college campus on April 24. Contrary to what you may believe, not every band or artist is willing to do college shows. Also, bands may not be available for our date. We do lots of research, and once again, we are not going to put someone on the survey that isn’t even available or willing to play our show.

So please take our surveys to help us decide who to choose for the Tigerfest headliner! And if you do not see your favorite artist on the next survey, do not be upset; it is most likely because of the reasons I stated above. It wouldn’t be fair of us to put someone on the survey that we cannot actually get.

Take our current survey now at: http://involved.towson.edu/Community?action=getSurvey&surveyID=94&orgID=155

Campus cares about note author

I sincerely hope that the author of the note in the Union entitled, “Dear World,” is still here with us and reading my note to them. This letter is for you. I know that it must be very difficult to be in your situation. You must feel very hopeless and alone. Please know that there is help out there for you! The Counseling Center (410-704-2512) on campus is wonderful and is waiting for students like you to come forward and seek help. It may seem scary to talk to someone about these problems, so I respect you for having the courage to share your feelings in the letter you wrote in the Union. You are not alone! There are people who care about you, even in a world like this. If it is too scary to talk to a counselor right now, please reach out to the friends you trust, your family, or even your professors. You may seem tired, fed up, and all out of bright ideas at the moment, but so have many others. With the right help, you will find that there are people who see the world like you do- as humans we are all one. Always remember that the Counseling Center and our campus care about you. Your friends and family care about you, and I care about you.

PIKE steps on ICF’s toes

While I’m not one to diss or hate on people, let’s make one thing clear -PIKE is not a fraternity. It is a boys’ club that is just stepping on the toes of the rest of the IFC. The brothers in my fraternity, the oldest fraternity on Towson’s campus, know each other inside and out, whereas the members of PIKE couldn’t pick their own brothers out of a line-up.  There is more to fraternities then showing up on a new campus and spending a ton of money to recruit the guys that the rest of Greek life would not want.
