Towson University police are investigating a note written on a white board in Room 316 of the University Union by an unknown person Friday afternoon.

The author of the note addressed it to “The World,” saying, “I could no longer bear sitting around and waiting as this world went to hell, so I decided to take my own life…”

John Adams, the University Union’s assistant director of operations, said that a representative from Events and Conference Services found the note and reported it to him around 12:30 p.m. on Friday.

Adams said he felt the note was serious enough to make a call to the TUPD.

“I just felt it was best to call the police because it’s better to be safe than sorry,” Adams said.

Despite the note’s content, the police have not confirmed anything.

“I wouldn’t classify it as a suicide note…it’s still under investigation,” TUPD captain Joe Herring said.

As of Sunday afternoon, no more information had been released about the ongoing investigation.

Following one call, the TUPD responded that they did not know about the incident.

Following the second call, police said they were unauthorized to share any information.

“It is still an active investigation …I don’t know what I could be able to tell you other than to confirm that there was an incident in the Union involving a message left on the white board but we’re still actively investigating that,” Herring said in a voice mail Saturday evening.

Transcription of the anonymous message:

DEAR WORLD,

I’ve did all that I could with the time that I had, but I could no longer bear sitting around and watching as this whole world went to hell; so I decided to take my own life, I’ll be much better off. It is a feeling that I have been having for a long while now. I hate myself…I find it hard to love myself in a world like this, where the hate and the hurt outweigh the love and the joy. I find it quite odd. There are many that I’ve loved that didn’t deserve it, and those I never got the chance to love. Sad story, really sad story. Taking my life is not me giving up, it’s me making a statement. Fuck this world. Living life shouldn’t be this hard. All the fucking politics are unnecessary. There seems to be joy in complication, I’m tired, I’m fed up, I’m all out of bright ideas. So, I’m leaving and I’m never coming back. If I told you I loved you, I meant it, if I didn’t, it doesn’t mean that I didn’t love you, it just might mean that I didn’t have the guts to tell you…or that I really never loved you. I end on Goodbye all.… it was nice while it lasted, at least it tried and failed. As humans we are all one. We need to wake up one day and see that as fact. This world would be a much happier place. Much love to all my fellow people.

Yours always…even in death.

I am really hoping that the person who wrote this letter in the union is still with us and gets help. It must be very difficult to be where you are right now, but please know that there are people here to help you. Towson has a great Counseling Center on campus (410-704-2512). It is scary to get help, but the results outweigh that fear. Please know that suicide is not a joke (to all those who posted before me). I hope that the Towson University Police are able to use their skills to locate this student before it is too late.

I find it quite sad that there are still people in this world that feel they have no other choice in life but to end theirs. These people feel this way because of the rest of society. We make them feel this way. Every nasty look or comment makes them slip deeper into themselves and everything we do or say that is negative or unkind in any way toward them makes them feel there is less and less hope. If this is true- I feel deeply sorry for the person who wrote this letter. I feel sorry for them because in their greatest time of need, they felt they had no one to talk to or turn to. This is our fault, and if we would step out of our own little world long enough, we would realize that we are here on this earth to influence and affect people other than ourselves.
