Some students are outraged by the parking changes outside Towson Run Apartments and Millennium Hall since the University fenced off a large portion of the parking lot in preparation for West Village construction. Phase one of the housing complex, slated for completion by Fall 2008, will have two residence halls consisting of about 650 beds.

Baltimore County police have arrested a suspect in connection with a March 15 armed robbery in the Towson Town Center parking garage. Nickolas Mathis, a 23-year-old Morgan State University student, was charged with armed robbery on March 19, Baltimore County Police spokesman Bill Toohey said.

Campus drivers who park illegally are more likely to have their car towed as a new enforcement program with higher fees goes into effect this week. New signs describing the towing policy were posted over Spring Break. The program includes an increase in the charge by Pollards Towing Inc.

Students showed overwhelming support for House Bill 6, which proposes in-state tuition rates for illegal immigrants, during the Student Government Association's open forum March 15. HB 6, sponsored by Delegate Victor Ramirez (D-Prince George's), applies to illegal immigrants who graduated from Maryland high schools.

Former astronaut to head academy

Director to start in August

Former astronaut and current NASA scientist Donald Thomas will serve as director for the Willard Hackerman Academy of Mathematics and Science beginning Aug. 1. Hackerman donated $1 million to TU in June to start the academy, which is part of the Jess and Mildred Fisher College of Science and Mathematics.

Board of Public Works appoves West Village plan

The Board of Public Works approved Towson University's plan for phase one of the West Village housing complex at a meeting March 21. In a complicated arrangement, the University is leasing land between the Enrollment Services Building and Towson Run Apartments so that Capstone Development Corp.

Stefaniak wins URG election

All candidates run unopposed in this year's election

Corinne DeRoberts, an independent candidate and the only one who ran opposed in the March 15 University Residence Government election, was named treasurer after her opponent Josh Perry withdrew. Jason Stefaniak, who was elected URG president, said he thought the election was "very successful" and raised awareness about the organization.
