Ellen Page laughs. The petite, 20-year-old actress sits with her Chuck Taylor-clad feet resting on the coffee table as she cradles an unnecessarily expensive bottle of water, a direct juxtaposition of her undeniably emo sensibilities. Page sits beside Diablo Cody, the 29-year-old screenwriter whose piercing blue eyes peek through her choppy, dyed-black hair.
Despite the snowy weather conditions students, alumni and even parents came out to listen and share poems, prose, fiction stories, and other written works at the Poetry Orgy on Wednesday, in Linthicum Hall. About 40 students attended the event. The event has always been called a Poetry Orgy as a joke, but its main purpose is for all students to exchange poetry, prose, and feelings with one another, senior English major Peter Nealon said.
In my first full year as a movie critic, I saw more movies in 365 days than I ever have before. I missed a few along the way (see my list at the bottom), forgot a few, and I was unfortunate enough to see some stinkers ("Perfect Stranger" and "Hot Rod" to name a couple).
Maybe it's because I'm not under 12 years old or I'm not familiar with the source material, but I completely missed the boat when it came to "The Golden Compass." It's hard to fend ignorance when I'm not exactly the target audience, but the fact remains that "The Golden Compass" is far too convoluted of a film to keep the attention of the younglings and their parents.
Even though I risk scowls from the boyfriend and will forever be labeled a dork by my coworkers, friends and the entire Towson University community, I have to admit it: I've got it bad for David Duchovny. He's made it to the list of the most beautiful people in the world, and I couldn't agree more.
