"A nice dress and prom night is something all girls want," Panhellenic Association president Emily Travers said.
The event was run by members of the Panhellenic board. It was their duty to organize the donations and drop them off at sites for the Priceless Gown Project. The drive brought in a total of 67 dresses, seven pairs of shoes and four purses. One woman came in donating samples of lipstick.
"Dresses are typically something you don't bring to college," sophomore mass communication major Rebecca Cominsky said. Cominsky's said her parents mailed her dresses to her from home so they could be donated to the drive.
"The idea for the event came from a girl who was interning with Screen Gems who was looking for a way to promote the film 'Prom Night,'" Travers said. "She came to me right before spring break so it was a rush to put together."
Katie Moore, a junior mass communication major who is interning with Allied advertising, was given the assignment of promoting the film.
"I was given the assignment and Googled prom charities in the Baltimore area," Moore said. "As soon as I found out about the project I went to Emily."
A prize of $100 was awarded to Alpha Xi Delta to give to the charity of their choice for providing the most dresses to the event.
