Some Towson students spent Thursday evening ducking, diving and dodging in Burdick Gym in order to raise money for the American Red Cross.

TU Red Cross Corps hosted the Red Cross Dodgeball Tournament, which about 45 students attended.

Jennifer Dunn, president of the TU Red Cross Corps and a senior speech pathology major, said she wanted to host the fund-raiser as a way to raise money for future community service events.

"We wanted to host an event that would attract a lot of students to come out to," Dunn said.

Emily Belanger, treasurer of TU Red Cross Corps and a sophomore business major, said it was a great event for meeting new people.

"A lot more students showed up than we expected," she said.

Some students had already registered their teams while others were walk-ins. Each team had a name for themselves and some dressed up in the same attire. Senior Jamie Lubin said he thought it would be a fun event and wanted to play for a good cause.

"Dip, duck, dodge and dive is our motto for the evening," Lubin said.

Sandy Viloria, a freshman pre-nursing major, attended the event because her friends said it would be fun.

"I like to play dodgeball, but I'm not very good at it," she said.

The tournament started with eight teams and by the final game, it was between the 'Morgan Freeman team' and 'Wu-Pah.'

Winners of the tournament received various apparel and gifts from the University Store including sweatshirts and T-shirts.

The Morgan Freeman team won the tournament undefeated. Sophomore political science major Adam Prescot, who played for the 'Wu-Pah' team, was the last one standing before Morgan Freeman eliminated him.

"Although my team let me down, it was a fun event and I'm glad I came," Prescot said.

Many students were so pleased with the event that multiple people had asked club members if there was going to be another tournament in the coming weeks, Dunn said.

"We will definitely plan another tournament in the near future and students should look out for another round of games," Dunn said.
