Univ. Residence Government to elect director of special projects
University Residence Government director of special projects elect Mike Sacks has chosen not to take the position this fall, leaving a vacancy on the executive board. A member of the Sunny 7 campaign ticket, Sacks decided he would be unable to fill the role due to personal reasons, according to current URG president Jason Stefaniak. Sacks and the rest of the Sunny 7 members ran unopposed for seats on the executive board and were successfully elected prior to Spring Break.
Stefaniak said instead of having polling stations in residence halls across campus to fill the position, a vote will take place Tuesday at the URG meeting in Chesapeake Room I in the University Union at 7 p.m.
"We looked through the constitution to see if it said anything about how to handle the situation but it didn't," Stefaniak said. "We will have the vote in the meeting, which will be open to all students to come and vote. So everybody can have their voice heard if they want."
Two campaign packets were picked up recently, according to Stefaniak, who said he anticipates a contested election. He does not know who the potential candidates will be.

President's council close to releasing draft on smoke-free campus
The president's council is currently reviewing the smoke-free campus proposal and will release details of the draft in the coming weeks.
"Our goal is to launch the program by January 1, 2011," Deb Moriarty, vice president for student affairs, said. Administrators began investigating the idea of going smoke-free in May 2007 by the request of Towson President Robert Caret. Towson is the only institution in the Towson Four that allows smoking. GBMC Healthcare, St. Joseph Medical Center and the Sheppard Pratt Health System have all banned it.
"We're hoping to pass a draft proposal and recommendation at the president's retreat next week and we'll be sharing those with the campus community," Moriarty said.
