She was supported by fellow junior Britt Woodfield, who scored two goals with two assists, while sophomore Jacie Kendall also scored and added two helpers. The Tigers (9-3, 2-0 CAA) have now won three straight games, and four of their last five.
"There are different challenges each game," Towson head coach Missy Doherty said. "This was a game that the girls held off Drexel who scored some late goals. [The one goal games] don't necessarily help or hurt us, but give us something to learn from. There is room for improvement, [and] we just need to know that teams are gunning for us and we have to match that fire."
After scoring seven of the game's first eight goals and comfortably leading 7-2 at the half, Drexel (8-5, 0-3) responded by scoring two goals in the first four minutes of the second half, to pull the Dragons within three goals with the score 7-4. Doherty then decided to replace senior goalkeeper Mandy Corry with sophomore Casey Lean for the second straight game, and the Tigers responded, scoring the next three goals to cushion the lead, 10-4.
"It's not necessarily pulling Mandy, but giving Casey some more experience," Doherty said of the move.
And the game was far from over.
The resilient Dragons stormed back by scoring the game's next four goals, before Fratzke answered with a goal with 2:37 left to make the score 11-8. Yet facing a seemingly insurmountable deficit, Katie Lawson took the game into her own hands and scored two goals in the last 30 seconds of the game to bring Drexel within 11-10. Fratzke, however, had the final answer, winning the ensuing draw control from the game's final goal to run out the clock and seal a Towson victory.
The win came on the heels of the team's first victory as a ranked team this season, a thrilling 13-12 come from behind win over conference foe Hofstra Friday. Fratzke and sophomore Nikki Marcinik combined to score nine goals as the Tigers rallied from a 9-5 halftime deficit. Lean relieved Towson starter Corry to help preserve the win, including a last second save as time expired to complete the team's comeback.
