The Tigers are officially .500 for the season as of Wednesday, April 9, following a 9-5 non-conference victory over Temple University. Gary Helmick, Chris Wychock, Brian Conley, and Greg Furmanek contributed to the win, each blasting two-run home runs out of John B. Schuerholz Park.

This marked Conley's third two-run blast in the last two games, having hit a pair in Tuesday's 14-5 win over Bucknell.

"It feels real good. I got off to a slow start at the beginning of the season. I didn't get any home runs; it was pretty much just singles and doubles. I just got into a little groove and started to see the ball better," Conley said. "I hope I can continue the same throughout the season. As well as I'm seeing the ball, I think I can continue to hit it like I have been."

The game was tied 1-1 after the first inning, but Conley upped the score to 5-1 in the bottom of the second with his blast, following Helmick's lead earlier in the inning. Wychock hit the third two-run home run in the bottom of the third to bring the score to 7-1.

The Owls cut their deficit to five runs in the fifth when freshman Steve Nikorak came home on a single by senior Stan Orzechowski. Senior Mike Kelch scored in the sixth on an RBI single by junior Mike Ortega, and a two-run shot over the fence by junior Sean Barksdale in the seventh brought the score to 7-5.

Furmanek increased Towson's lead to four runs in the bottom of the seventh with his homer, which bounced all the way across Towsontown Boulevard before settling in the grass across the street. His homer was the last time either team would score in the game.

"I was pretty much sitting fastballs the whole way. I had some rough at-bats early but I thought I was seeing the ball well. He threw it where I could hit it, and I hit it out," Furmanek said.
