Conference officials named freshman Meredith Budner Colonial Athletic Association Rookie of the Year, and head coach Pat Mead earned the CAA Women's Swimming Coach of the Year title.
"It's a great honor," Mead said, "but I think it's really more of a reflection of the team."
Several other members of the team earned all-CAA honors as well after the Tigers finished undefeated in the conference and won the CAA Championships at George Mason.
Budner scored more points than any other freshman in the CAA at the championship and was named and all-CAA performer in the 500-yard freestyle, 1650-yard freestyle and 400-yard individual medley. In the medley, Budner broke the school record, and she was part of the 800-yard freestyle relay team for Towson that set a conference record.
Mead said that the main focus of the team in the off-season is to make sure that none of the young players, especially the freshmen, don't fall into a false impression that next season will be easy. He said that Budner and the other rookies all have potential to continue to either do well or to fall into a "sophomore slump."
"[The sophomore slump] becomes something if you let it become that," Mead said.
In addition, juniors Hillary Rieveley and Danielle Kelly, sophomores Stephanie Guttenplan, Ivy Wimberley, Robin Glaser, Emilie Hoeper and Jordan Crosby, and freshmen Brooke Golden, Erica Hall and Kayla Zeller all earned all-CAA honors in individual events.
"If Meredith was not here, any other year, we have other women who would potentially be in the same boat."
Rieveley, a native of Brampton, Ontario, competed in the Canadian Olympic Trials from Sunday until Tuesday. She entered the trials seeded 96th, but she swam four life-time best times in the 50-meter freestyle and came in 26th place.
